Sigma Art Series Finally Comes to Sony E Mount

1Share

The wait is over. Sigma’s famed Art series prime lenses are now available with a native Sony E-mount. Covering a wide range of focal lengths — 14, 20, 24, 35, 50, 70, 85, 105, and 135mm — these lenses are designed with optical performance as their utmost priority.

Each Art series lens, save the 70mm f/2.8 DG Macro Art Lens, contains Sigma’s Hyper Sonic Motor focusing mechanism, which can provide quiet and accurate focus in a fraction of a second. Also included in each Art lens are elements and coatings that reduce chromatic and spherical aberrations for increased optical quality.

Satisfying wide-angle needs, the Sigma 14mm f/1.8, 20mm f/1.4, and 24mm f/1.4 DG HSM Art lenses are ideal for landscape, architecture, or documentary uses. Minimal distortion and aberrations are achieved thanks to low-dispersion elements found throughout the lenses.

Occupying the standard-length prime spots in the Art series are the Sigma 35mm and 50mm f/1.4 lenses. These fast, everyday lenses work in a range of scenarios like landscape, portrait, photojournalism, and street photography. Their relatively compact size when paired with a mirrorless Sony E-mount camera also benefits those looking for a lightweight setup to travel with.

Truly benefiting the high megapixel count of Sony E-mount cameras are the portrait-length Sigma 85mm f/1.4 and the 70mm f/2.8 Macro lenses. With rounded 9-blade diaphragms, like other Art Series lenses, and bright maximum apertures, both lenses are capable of incredible depth of field control and exceptional bokeh. The 70mm macro lens uses a coreless DC autofocus motor with an immediate manual focus override function to nail focus on small subjects.

Finally filling out the Art Series lineup are the telephoto-length Sigma 105mm f/1.4 and 135mm f/1.8 lenses. These bright lenses are great for portraits, landscapes, sports, or other instances where reach is required. Like the rest of the Art Series, these lenses are constructed from Thermally Stable Composite (TSC) materials along with traditional metals for use in wider temperature variations.

The Sigma Art Series is a welcome addition to Sony’s E-mount cameras. Pairing fast, sharp lenses with powerful camera bodies creates a wide range of creative possibilities.

This is a HUGE step in the right direction. HOWEVER! The day Sigma releases the 18-35mm for e-mount will be a glorious day.
