The New Canon IVY REC Mini Camera Clips On

Canon has just released one of its oddest and simplest cameras yet—the Canon IVY REC. The camera is the size of the small “bag tags” that you see dangling off of the cool kid’s backpacks these days, or the carabiner-clipped portable hand sanitizer that you see on the less-cool parent’s backpacks these days. It might not be smaller than all bag tags, but it is probably smaller and lighter than the portable hand sanitizer as it measures 4.3 x 1.7 x 0.72" and weighs less than a fast-food ¼ lb burger (before cooking) at 3.17oz.

Elegantly simple, the camera has interchangeable colorful faceplates and the opening of the carabiner clip doubles as a rudimentary optical viewfinder for composing your shots. The IVY REC is waterproof to 6.6' and shockproof from 6.6' drops—impressive how they got those numbers to align. The digital CMOS sensor captures 13MP images and Full HD 1080p video at 60 fps and transfers its data to compatible mobile devices using the Canon Mini Cam app.

Does your youngster want to enter the world of photography but isn’t ready for a mobile phone or larger and more sophisticated camera? The spy cam-like IVY REC might fill the bill nicely. Are you out at a water park and tired of lugging your ever-growing smartphone with you or trying to avoid getting your phone and photo gear covered with sand and salt spray? Clip the IVY REC onto your bag and know that you can still capture moments when they arise.
