If there is one thing that draws Leica camera owners to the B&H SuperStore like moths to a flame, it is the release of limited-edition finishes on the company's classic rangefinder lenses. Just a couple of hours ago, I was standing next to a coworker from the B&H Used Department, Leica M6 hanging around his neck, and a passerby said, simply, "Black paint edition." Leica shooters (and collectors) know their finishes.
New from Leica, in very limited quantities, M digital and film shooters can now own and cherish the following special variants: the APO-Summicron-M 50mm f/2 ASPH. in black-chrome finish, Summilux-M 28mm f/1.4 ASPH. in silver-anodized finish, and the Summaron-M 28mm f/5.6 in matte black paint finish.
The Summicron comes with a vintage-style brass lens hood with "Made in Germany" engravings. 700 lenses will be produced. The Summilux's silver matches the silver of many Leica rangefinders, and only 300 will be made. Finally, 500 Summaron lenses, already tiny pancake lenses—the smallest of the Leica M-System, are now stealthier with their matte finish and red focus markings.
Get them while they are hot!
