Third-party lens-maker Viltrox is announcing two new prime lenses for Sony E and Nikon Z full-frame cameras, the 35mm f/1.8 II EVO and 55mm f/1.8 EVO lenses. Joining an 85mm f/2 prime released in fall 2025, the new lenses constitute the first wide and normal focal-length options for the company’s new EVO (“Evolution of Essentials”) series dedicated to compact, high-performance, full-frame lenses.

The new optics, which are similar in size and optical design, offer an affordable alternative for creators in both ecosystems seeking a fast maximum aperture, quick and quiet STM autofocus, and clear and precise imagery.

The 35mm f/1.8 II EVO is technically the first of its kind in the EVO ecosystem, even if it is Viltrox’s second such lens overall. It’s smaller and lighter than its predecessor and boasts a more sophisticated optical design, now featuring a total of 13 elements in 10 groups that include refractive, aspherical, and extra-low dispersion lenses. The minimum focusing distance is also smaller than before at 13.4”.

Viltrox’s normal-length EVO prime lands at 55mm f/1.8, a less common focal length for full-frame cameras than the fabled nifty fifty. The 55mm offers a little more length for background compression, depth of field, and bokeh while remaining in the realm of the naked human eye. This lens has 13 elements in nine groups and has refractive, aspherical, and extra-low dispersion glass. Here, the minimum focusing distance is 16.9”.

Additionally, the lenses share an HD Nano coating and an aluminum construction.
