The Most Exciting New and Dynamic DJ and Venue Lights of 2023

A DJ set with booming professional audio is a great way to enjoy dance music with a like-minded crowd, but a DJ set with a captivating light show becomes a veritable audio-visual experience that audiences may never forget. Whether blasting a burst of unexpected fog or executing a meticulously pre-programmed display of dancing lasers, keeping an array of versatile lighting fixtures is a necessary component of a complete DJ kit. Recently released lights, effects units, and control surfaces enable professional lighting designers and burgeoning performers alike to envision new creative expressions on stage. A wide range of brands have items suitable for lighting professionals and venues looking to add new gear to their setup, as well as pieces for building a lighting kit from scratch. Here we will consider a few fresh products from select manufacturers that are now available at B&H.

CHAUVET DJ: Enhanced Capability for Integrated Lighting System (ILS)

CHAUVET DJ has made some new additions to its easy-to-set-up yet incredibly powerful Integrated Lighting System series. ILS unifies control of every compatible fixture from CHAUVET DJ, including a wide range of color wash lights, moving heads, and special effects units. Whether it's 2, 5, or 20 lights in your ILS ecosystem, they remain seamlessly in sync while showing off their dynamic illumination capabilities. If you're considering incorporating a variety of multi-functional fixtures to create a complete light show for your performances or venue, look no further than the GigBAR Move+ ILS. Twin moving heads, derbys, color wash lights, and a combination strobe-and-laser effects module all come pre-installed on a rigid 43-inch bar. Although the GigBAR all-in-one-style system is nothing new to CHAUVET DJ's catalog, this version for 2023 has native ILS compatibility. Put a few GigBAR+ ILS units together to establish a totally immersive light show for performances and parties.

In order to control the myriad fixtures that interact with ILS most effectively, CHAUVET DJ has invented the ILS Command control surface. With a familiar yet simplified interface, lighting techs and stage acts are able to take full advantage of the versatile configuration tools provided by ILS. It gives users tactile feedback for lighting control, useful for making changes in the dark or while paying attention to the stage. This is achieved by an array of nine quick-color buttons for rapid readjustment of the venue's mood and six programmable preset buttons. A set of two encoder wheels and four faders gives that traditional lighting board look and feel to this advanced device.

Blizzard Lighting: Instant Eye-Catching Effects

With the arrival of its new InfiniPix series of special effect stage lights, Blizzard has given bands, DJs, and other performers the opportunity to set up dazzling light shows in minutes or to utilize these vibrant effects for a full dynamic light show rigged overhead. With a huge set of presets and customization features, both the circular InfiniPix Cyclone and totem-pole-like InfiniPix Spektro are meant to imbue a retro vibe in light shows. The Spektro comprises seven LED arrays arranged vertically, each of which contains 28 RGB LEDs for producing smooth gradients of linear light. Its built-in flip-out stand lets it act as a stand-alone unit, but its real potential is realized when it is used in conjunction with multiple other Spektros for a simulated large-scaled EQ effect, controllable via wired DMX or wirelessly with an optional SoC-It USB unit.

On the other hand, the Cyclone mesmerizes audiences with its swirling set of 325 individual LEDs. Sporting an easy-to-use 4-button interface and a 360° yoke for hassle-free rigging, the Cyclone can quickly deliver its 85 animated effects and 21 pattern color presets to enhance the experience of ravers, diehard fans, and everyone else on the dance floor. In addition to their applications on stage, those looking to shoot video of their performances for reels and music videos with flicker-free output means shots maintain a smooth and natural look.

Antari: A New High-Powered Effects Fan

The addition of special effects to stage performances give audiences an unexpected surprise and an overall boost to the vibe of the party. This year Antari introduced a new heavy-duty edition to its AF line of effects fans for stage and other applications. The AF-6 looks the part, featuring a large cylindrical chamber with a funnel-shaped front face for focused effects delivery. The fan blasts a huge volume of air capable of shooting fog, bubbles, foam, or snow across vast areas, effectively covering an entire audience. While its robust profile may be too beefy for traveling DJs or performers just getting their start in upgrading their stage-production setup, it boasts unmatched performance and wind output compared to other Antari fans. For more permanent setups, or for when additional lighting and effects control surfaces are made available, the AF-6 can be operated at a distance via standard DMX and RDM functions. Antari also offers optional wired or wireless remotes.
