Dante Comes to the Focusrite Pro ISA Line

0Share

For the first time, Focusrite’s classic preamp designs can be integrated into Dante audio-over-ethernet systems, thanks to three new pieces of gear: The Focusrite Pro ISA 828 MkII eight-channel mic preamp, the ISA ADN2 two-channel AD card for Dante, and the ISA ADN8, which is an 8-channel AD card for Dante. Engineers have respected the sound of this range of preamps for years, and now, with these items, they can route the meaty, weighty sound of Focusrite preamps over Dante.

The ISA 828 MkII itself offers eight mic/line preamps, with four instrument inputs on the front panel. Each mic pre offers variable input impedance to give you a multitude of sonic options, including the ISA 110 setting, which replicates that grand old original Focusrite sound.

You’ll note the gain range of 80 dB, as well as a fixed high-pass filter for minimizing rumble, six-segment LED meters per channel, and rear-panel insert points to loop EQs and compressors into the mix.

New to the ISA 828 MkII is its updated power supply, which provides more efficient power consumption at lower temperatures. Also, the ISA 828 MkII is compatible with Dante networks, should you load it with the newly issued ISA ADN8 card.

Integrate the ISA ADN8 card, and you’ll be able to connect this preamp over AES3, ADAT, or Dante, at sample rates and resolutions up to 192 kHz / 24-bit. This card has primary and secondary Ethernet ports, as well as TOSLINK ports for optical, a DSUB port for eight channels of AES3, and wordclock I/O over BNC terminations.

Should you already have a device such as the ISA One, you’re not going to need all that to get Dante connectivity. So turn your addition to the ISA ADN2, a two-channel AD card with primary and secondary Ethernet ports, an ADAT TOSLINK connection, a coaxial S/PDIF output, an XLR jack for AES3, and clocking over BNC I/O.
