If you’re looking for a way to hang up that mouse and return to a workflow similar to the consoles of yesteryear, then the X-TOUCH EXTENDER MIDI Controller, by the stalwart people over at Behringer, might be just the ticket. It was designed to integrate perfectly with any pre-existing X-TOUCH Universal Control Surface, but if you don’t have one, fear not! This MIDI controller can connect to your host computer all by its lonesome.
Eight touch-sensitive, motorized faders are provided here, and atop each fader, you’ll find a rotary control with a 13-segment LED collar and a set of four control buttons. Mute, solo, record, and record-arm are all functions provided by the buttons, while the 13-segment LED collar is useful for giving you an instantaneous gander into your specific parameters. So, if you want to know approximately how much you’ve panned an instrument to the left, these lights will show you the way.
Each fader provides eight-segment LED metering, as well as clip indicators. For those of you who miss laying down masking tape on the console and scribbling down your channel assignments, have no fear! An LCD scribble strip is provided.
Standard MIDI control protocol is supported by this device, though you can also make use of Mackie control and HUI—whether you use Pro Tools, Logic Pro X, or any other DAW, you’re covered. Mac and Windows computers are both supported.
As a bonus to, say, anyone with a phone, this little item here doubles as a USB 2.0 hub, capable of supplying 5V of power. You can use these ports to expand your setup horizontally with additional XTOUCH EXTENDERS, or you can charge your clients’ phones so they can peruse Instagram and tweet meaninglessly while you sit there and mix. Want another bonus? Of course, you do! A full license of tracktion is included with your purchase of the X-TOUCH EXTENDER, so come on down to our SuperStore (or visit our website) to pick one up!
