JOBY’s popular lineup of audio/video products just got even more expansive, with the announcement of several new additions: the Wavo PLUS on-camera microphone, the Wavo Boom Arm, the HandyPod 2 Tripod Stand, the Beamo Studio Background Light, the Beamo Studio Key Light, the Beamo Studio Deluxe Lighting Kit, the Beamo Studio Creator Kit, and the HandyPod 2 Kit—all geared toward busy content creators looking for cost-effective ways to get better results and streamline their workflows.
Wavo PLUS On-Camera Microphone
With an integrated shockmount that insulates it from vibrations and attaches easily to your camera shoe, the Wavo PLUS mic is a great fit for busy DSLR and mirrorless camera users shooting videos for YouTube, TikTok, and similar platforms. The mic’s condenser capsule uses a supercardioid pick-up pattern that narrowly focuses audio capture on the subject while rejecting much of the unwanted sound from the rear and sides. The included foam windscreen helps to reduce wind noise, which is especially important on outdoor shoots where wind often blows. The mic features a 3.5mm output, and JOBY supplies a TRS cable for camera connection and a TRRS cable if you’re using the mic with a mobile device. A built-in rechargeable battery supplies enough juice for 30 hours of shooting time and recharges in 2 hours via its USB-C port. A front LED provides a low-battery warning, which is helpful when you’re in front of the camera. Additionally, the mic detects plug-in power from the camera and shuts down the battery when you’re not shooting, to save power. The USB-C port also allows you to use the PLUS as a USB microphone with Mac and Windows computers, great for adding voice-overs to a video in post.
The PLUS offers a couple of additional features that help it stand out, including a 100 Hz high-pass filter to reduce rumbles and a second 3.5mm headphone jack with volume control, allowing you to monitor your audio in real time. The main output also has three gain settings, 0, -10 dB, and +15 dB, so you can set the right level for your camera model without overloading it or cranking up the gain on the camera’s noisy preamps. Run-and-gun style shooting is unpredictable, so the PLUS also gives you the ability to split your recording and have a lower -10 dB channel on the right side, potentially providing you with a clean backup if the in-camera audio is overloaded. All these goodies are easily accessible via tactile controls, helping you to keep things moving quickly on a hectic set.
Wavo Boom Arm
Don’t worry podcasters—JOBY has been thinking about you, too, and has engineered the Wavo Boom Arm to help make streaming and broadcasting fun and easy. This two-section boom arm clamps to your desktop or table and will hold up to 2.2 lb., which is more than sufficient for most microphones and pop filters. Designed for silent movement, it’s made from aluminum and stainless steel and tested to ensure a minimum of 5,000 open/close cycles. The universal ball head sports a 1/4"-20 thread, making it easy to attach a compact camera for overhead shots. Of course, 3/8 and 5/8" adapters are supplied for use with microphones. Red and black covers are provided for the cable channels in the arms, so you can tuck away cables for a neat and stylish appearance. Two final touches make it clear that JOBY truly has your back with the Wavo Boom Arm. First, a headphone cradle is supplied, so you can access your headphones in a snap. And second, an integrated cup holder is also on board to keep the beverage of your choice within easy reach.
Beamo Studio Lights and Kits
But JOBY’s new offerings don’t stop there; the company is also announcing two new lights. The Beamo Studio Key Light is a soft main light designed to make you look good on camera and features an adjustable tabletop stand. This key light offers 10 brightness levels and 3 color temperatures, all controllable via the included wired remote. Meanwhile, the Beamo Studio Background Light is a 12-color LED that helps color your studio background, offering 10 brightness levels. This low-heat light is powered via USB, so you don’t have to worry about batteries, while the built-in tilting stand provides easy angling options.
To make your journey into podcasting and content creation a little easier, JOBY has introduced two comprehensive kits built around these new Beamo lights, aimed at burgeoning YouTubers. The Beamo Studio Deluxe Lighting Kit adds a flexible GorillaPod Arm for easy phone angling and framing while the Beamo Studio Creator Kit includes the GorillaPod Arm and a Wavo Mobile microphone.
HandyPod 2 Mini Tripod and Hand Grip
Finally, JOBY is also releasing the HandyPod 2, an updated version of the company’s popular desktop mini tripod / hand grip. The stand uses an adjustable ball head with a 1/4"-20 thread to accommodate point-and-shoot or mirrorless cameras and features rubber feet for a stable, slip-free foundation. For mobile device users, the HandyPod 2 Kit is available in 3 different tripod color choices and adds the black GripTight 360 phone mount, which attaches to the stand and offers a spring-loaded design engineered to handle phones up to 3.46".
