Korg’s New Volca Sample 2 Doubles the Memory and Adds Pattern Chaining

There’s a first time for everything, and today the award goes to the Korg Volca Sample 2, Korg’s first second-generation Volca. The company has chosen a smart Volca model to update; the original sample sequencer’s portable chassis and fun-to-use, intuitive interface have proven wildly popular with desktop and electronic musicians—delivering real results you can turn into grooves, riffs, and clips for all kinds of applications.

The Volca Sample’s core sequencing functionality (and the price!) are still the same, but the upgrades are very significant, starting with a doubling of the sample memory, now expanded to 8MB for a total of 200 sample slots and including an updated library of factory samples. Pattern memory has also been increased from a max of 10 on the original up to 16 now. What’s more, with the new Pattern Chaining feature, you can finally string patterns together in the machine to form longer, more complex compositions.

The new USB MIDI port makes interfacing with computers and other MIDI instruments a more seamless experience, vastly speeding up the time it takes to load samples while offering direct MIDI interfacing with your computer and audio interface for easier recording to your favorite DAW.
