Looking for a versatile mixing system for live and studio that’s equally at home in houses of worship, broadcast facilities, live venues, touring rigs, and recording studios? Check out the new PreSonus StudioLive RML32AI and RML16AI rackmount digital mixers with Active Integration, which now feature eight line-level inputs.
The RML32AI is a 32-input, console-free system that can be controlled using a Mac or PC, and offers full touchscreen integration when used with an iPad or multi-touch Windows computer. The mixer features 24 locking XLR mic inputs and 8 combo locking XLR-1/4" TRS line inputs, each with recallable XMAX Class-A analog mic preamps and +48V phantom power. The unit includes 16 XLR outputs with the last four offering 300 ms of alignment delay. Additionally, the 16 outputs are mirrored to two DB25 jacks for flexibility in connecting to other gear.
The RML16AI is a smaller version, with 16 inputs and eight outputs. The first set of 8 inputs features locking XLR mic inputs, while the second set features combo locking XLR-1/4" TRS line inputs. All inputs utilize XMAX Class-A analog preamps and offer +48V phantom power. Outputs include 8 XLR connectors, with the last four offering up to 300 ms of alignment delay and a single DB25 connector that mirrors the XLR outputs for added flexibility when connecting to other gear.
Both units offer three main XLR outputs (left, right, mono) and include analog trim pots for dialing-in the perfect level. Should you need a digital connection, an optional card is available with a S/PDIF output. Additional I/O include stereo RCA tape inputs and a ¼" headphone output with volume knob and selectable source. In addition to the flexible control, connectivity, and routing, the StudioLive RML32AI and RML16AI allow you to capture audio in up to 24-bit/96 kHz resolution using Burr-Brown converters, blurring the line between a digital mixer and a professional sound card.
The UC Surface software gives you compression, limiting, gate/expander, and four-band parametric EQ on each channel and mix bus. To help get you up and running quickly, the software offers 50 presets to optimize the sound of guitars, bass, drums, vocals, and more. You also get a high-pass filter on every channel and aux bus, a low-pass filter on the main mono/center bus, as well as polarity invert, routing, and pan on each channel. What’s more, all settings can be saved as “scenes,” which may be recalled at any moment, making the RML mixers great for venues and touring bands.
