When music creators seek to make their mark, they need instruments that can keep up. Well, electronic musicians, producers, keyboardists, and synth aficionados should delight in this exciting bit of news… Building on the power of the Peak 8-voice synth, Novation has released the Summit, an epic 16-voice polyphonic synthesizer that’s ready to rumble through your tracks and cut through the mix.
Thanks to its two-part multitimbral engine, the Summit is like two Peak synths in one; layer two patches, split them on the keyboard, or switch between them during your performance. Each of the 16 voices boasts three digital FPGA-generated New Oxford Oscillators for analog-style, wavetable, and FM synthesis, making the Summit highly capable of genre-hopping versatility. The digital sound sources are routed to a true stereo signal path with expressive tone-shaping analog components including dual 12/24 dB/octave filters, VCAs, and 3-stage distortion. Added to that are 16 modulation slots per patch, a slew of modulation sources and destinations, and per-part effects such as reverb, delay, and chorus.
Novation decided to put the Summit’s extreme power at your fingertips; you’ll find a velocity-sensitive and aftertouch-enabled keybed with 61 semi-weighted keys, and an expanded panel with 50 control knobs, eight 45mm sliders, 55 function buttons, and more. An OLED display, data encoder, volume knob, and two animate buttons round out the vast selection of controls and further enhance your workflow.
When it comes to I/O, the Summit is equally well equipped. As you would expect, there are connections for MIDI in, out, and thru, plus a USB port for routing MIDI to/from a host computer. Send external signals such as pre-recorded tracks to the two 1/4" inputs, then creatively process them with the Summit. The rear panel offers ports for hookup of two continuous or switched pedals, and a 3.5mm CV input. Stereo audio outputs are presented on 1/4" jacks—two main outs, two aux outs, and one headphone output—to accommodate various monitoring and recording scenarios.
Whether you’re looking for a fresh dose of inspiration for your studio compositions, or you feel the urge to step up your live performance setup, this towering 16-voice synth has oodles to offer.
