Allen & Heath just announced the newest member of its award-winning Avantis platform: the Avantis Solo. Featuring the same audio capabilities as the original Avantis mixer, the Solo promises the same premier performance as its lauded predecessor but in a compact footprint that’s only half its size and two-thirds its weight.
Like its predecessor, the Avantis Solo is a 64-channel, 42-bus digital mixer powered by Allen & Heath’s advanced 96kHz FPGA engine, which imbues it with many of the same class-leading features, including an insanely low 0.7ms latency. The Solo also utilizes the same Continuity UI as the original, so users can expect the same seamless connection between physical controls and the touchscreen display.
Speaking of controls: The Solo features 12 physical faders with 6 fader band layers for a total of 72 channels. A trio of custom rotary controls and 18 assignable SoftKeys are also onboard, all of which are tied together via the sleek UI.
Because it’s smaller, the Solo doesn’t have quite as many I/O options as its larger predecessor; however, it still has a lot. The rear panel includes 6 analog XLR inputs, 6 XLR analog outputs, as well as a single AES digital input and output. An integrated SLink port allows the Solo to connect to the entire range of Allen & Heath’s remote audio expanders and its ME Personal Mixing System.
Apart from its size, the most conspicuous difference between the original Avantis mixer and the Solo is that the OG unit features two 15.6” HD touchscreens, while the more compact Solo only has one.
Oh, and it costs dramatically less. With an MSRP of $9499, the single-screen Solo is $4K cheaper than its dual-display daddy. Considering you get the same audio performance and processing power (in a smaller, more manageable footprint no less), the Solo definitely seems like a great deal with tremendous value—assuming its single touchscreen will suffice for your workflow.
