Sony Announces ECM-W2BT Wireless, ECM-LV1 Compact Stereo Lavalier Microphones

0Share

Sony Electronics today announced two new microphones with the launch of the ECM-W2BT camera-mount Bluetooth digital wireless microphone and ECM-LV1 compact stereo lavalier microphone. Designed to meet the needs of today’s vloggers, YouTubers, and video creators, these microphones capture high-quality, reliable audio for a wide range of applications including interviews, lectures, podcasts, street performance, product reviews, food reviews, travel vlogs, and more.

The ECM-W2BT Bluetooth digital wireless microphone system delivers reliable wireless performance to capture clean, interference-free audio, even in the presence of obstacles or in crowded environments with other wireless activity taking place. In locations with good visibility, stable communication between the transmitter and receiver is possible at a range up to 600' (line of sight).

The Qualcomm aptX Low Latency codec is used to provide high-quality audio and low-latency performance. Content creators on the go will appreciate the compact, lightweight body design (resistant to dust and moisture), which provides enhanced mobility with compact camcorders and smaller DSLR/mirrorless cameras.

The transmitter unit is equipped with an advanced omnidirectional mic capsule that delivers clear sound without the need for a separate microphone. A convenient clip lets you attach the transmitter on clothing and position it near the speaker’s mouth to capture sound evenly from every direction, with no need to worry which way the unit is facing. For a more discreet setup, the 3.5mm input allows you to connect lavalier microphones like the ECM-LV1 stereo lavalier, which can be easily concealed away from the camera’s eye.

For challenging recording environments, an attenuator switch offers a choice of 20, 10, and 0 dB of attenuation, enabling you to adjust the audio-level pickup when the sound is excessively loud or too low. A furry windscreen is provided to reduce wind noise when working outdoors.

The camera-mount receiver unit is ideal for use on Sony cameras that employ either a digital or analog MI (Multi Interface) shoe for cable-free connectivity. When connected to a digital MI shoe camera, the receiver converts the audio from analog to digital and processes the signal, sending the digitized audio to the camera for low-noise recording. The receiver also features an output jack, allowing you to use the microphone with cameras, audio recorders, and computers that have a 3.5mm audio input, or with mobile devices with a headphone jack (additional adapter required).

Support for two-person shoots is provided. In addition to the main wireless microphone, there is also an internal microphone inside the receiver unit, allowing you to record the camera operator and the main subject (on-camera performer and camera operator). Three sound pick-up modes—MIC mode, MIX mode, and RCVR mode—allows you to record either direct or ambient sound (or both) based on the application.

Both transmitter and receiver have a built-in rechargeable lithium-ion battery that deliver long recording times. When even longer operation is needed, the battery-assist function via the power supply from a compatible camera’s MI shoe enables you to operate the receiver for up to 18 hours.

For easy reference, the ECM-W2BT includes a LINK lamp to notify you of the status of the communication between the microphone and the receiver and a POWER lamp to check the remaining battery charge easily.

The ECM-LV1 compact stereo lavalier microphone combines high-quality sound pickup with a compact design for unobtrusive appearance and easy carrying while shooting. It features two advanced omnidirectional microphone capsules that capture stereo sound evenly in every direction. The 360° rotatable clip allows for horizontal attachment to a necktie or vertical attachment to a pocket, with the microphone attached at the same angle. The mic is powered via plug-in power provided by the camera, the ECM-W2BT transmitter, or audio recorder. The included foam windscreen helps reduce wind noise.

Both the ECM-W2BT and ECM-LV1 will be available at B&H in April 2021. For detailed product information, chat with us online or give us a call.
