Sony has quickly become the leader in noise-canceling headphone technology, improving its capabilities and features with every new iteration of its flagship wireless model. Finally, the eagerly awaited Sony WH-1000XM6 has been unveiled, promising exponentially better noise cancellation, enhanced sound quality, and improvements in comfort and portability.
Better Sound Quality
For the WH-1000XM6, Sony has collaborated with world-renowned mastering engineers to improve both clarity and depth in sound delivery. Thanks to the help of a custom driver with a lightweight carbon fiber dome, the XM6 promises rich vocals and notably accurate sound reproduction across the entire frequency spectrum.
In addition to its LDAC hi-res Bluetooth technology, Sony boasts AI-powered real-time file restoration, which restores compressed audio files by recognizing instruments, genres, and sound elements to revive the more nuanced sonic details that are lost in the process of compression.
Sony also employs its advanced look-ahead noise shaper D/A technology (in the Noise Canceling Processor QN3) to minimize distortion while enhancing the bass and presenting a precise and lively sound that’s true to the original recording.
Immersive Audio
The XM6 comes with a head tracking feature (available with compatible content) that adjusts sound fields in real time with one’s movements, keeping the audio aligned with the listener to maintain an immersive effect.
Furthermore, Sony offers a 360 Spatial Sound Personalizer through its companion app, which analyzes one’s ear shape to generate a tailored spatial soundscape that optimally matches the listener and their BRAVIA TV.
Improved Noise Cancellation
Sony’s brand-new HD Noise Canceling Processor QN3 is seven times faster than the previous model, utilizing 12 microphones in real time. As a result, the XM6 achieves superior noise cancellation, improved sound quality, and crystal-clear call performance.
The company also integrates its Adaptive Noise-Canceling Optimizer, which naturally adjusts to your surroundings, air-pressure, and even accessories you wear, such as hats or sunglasses. As a result, sound quality remains uninterrupted regardless of your location or fashion choices.
That said, when you want to be conscious of your environment, you can activate Ambient Sound Mode, which blends your music with ambient sound to stay aware of important outside noises, such as voices or announcements.
As mentioned, call clarity has also been made a priority. The XM6 features six beamforming microphones with AI noise reduction and wind resistance to effectively isolate your voice for clear conversations even in noisy situations.
Long Battery Life and Fast Charging
Like the previous model, the XM6 offers up to 30 hours of battery life with the ability to generate 3 hours of playback after a quick 3-minute charge.
Smart Controls and Accompanying App
The XM6 incorporates responsive buttons and touch controls to navigate functions like volume, pause, mode switching and more. And for extra control, you can utilize Sony’s Sound Connect App to tweak EQ settings, adjust noise cancellation and ambient modes, as well as choose from various other preferences.
More Comfort and Easier Portability
In this new model, the brand has implemented a wider headband to eliminate any uncomfortable pressure that can come with prolonged wear. Thankfully, the WH-1000XM6 is also now foldable. And with a compact carrying case included, it becomes an ideal traveling companion.
The WH-1000XM6 is available in black and platinum silver.
