Soyuz has announced a reissue of their well-regarded Soyuz 1973 FET Condenser Microphone with the limited-edition Soyuz Deluxe 1973 Red Velvet, coming in a sleek, new red-and-white housing with custom shockmount and oak suitcase, all of which are reminiscent of the confectionary of the same name—and only forty Soyuz 1973 Red Velvet units will be produced worldwide.
Since its original release in 2022, the Soyuz 1973 has become a modern classic in recording studios, gaining notoriety as a workhorse mic that delivers exceptional clarity without sounding too clinical or sterile. The microphone particularly shines when used with guitar amps, drum spots, and drum overheads, with a switchable -10/-20 dB pad, allowing it to easily handle these high-SPL sources.
The Soyuz 1973 uses the original S23 capsule design found in the Soyuz 023 Bomblet mic but comes in a much smaller form factor, making it perfect for using in tight spaces or when you need to fine-tune placement down to the millimeter.
The 1973’s transformerless FET circuitry makes for a mic with incredible clarity and transient detail while keeping the noise floor low, and its custom machined resonator reduces internal resonance and adds extra plosive protection when recording vocals on stage or in the studio.
The Soyuz 1973 always has been a pocket rocket of a microphone. If you’re looking to get your hands on the truly special Red Velvet version of this excellent microphone, now’s your chance!
