German manufacturer Steinberg has enjoyed a storied history in the music business. From products such as Cubase, Nuendo, and the UR-series interfaces to its invention of technologies like the ASIO protocol and VST plug-in format, Steinberg is known for making quality audio products. Now, the brand is announcing an exciting new series of interfaces aimed at the home-recording musician and content creator: the IXO-Series.
Available in two configurations, the black or white IXO12 with one mic preamp and the black or white IXO22 with two mic preamps couple an extremely compact, lightweight form factor with exceptional quality audio. Both interfaces are 2x2 USB 2.0 devices with support for up to 24-bit / 196 kHz recording. The IXO12, with its single preamp, is positioned as an ideal choice for portable recording and streaming, while the dual-preamp IXO22 functions more comfortably as a composing and recording tool for working with your laptop or mobile smart device (such as an iPad).
Each mic input on these interfaces sports a superb-sounding Class-A mic preamp with dedicated phantom power and mute control. The preamps feature XLR-1/4" combo inputs for convenient connections with both mics (like condensers and dynamics) and line-level signals. Each interface also features a Hi-Z instrument input, letting you easily handle mics, keyboards, guitars, drum machines, or anything else you might connect to it.
Both interfaces also sport direct, low-latency monitoring and loopback functionality for livestreaming. Use the low-latency monitoring to ensure you can hear yourself clearly without being distracted by unwanted delays. With loopback, you can bring in guests to your livestream via smartphone or video chat apps without feedback, echo, or delay, resulting in a cleaner stream.
The IXO-series interfaces both support wide cross-platform compatibility with Windows, macOS, and iOS. Each interface includes a USB-C to USB-A cable for host connections, as well as a free download of Cubase AI, Cubasis LE, and Steinberg Plus.
But we’re not finished here yet! Along with the launch of these new interfaces, Steinberg is offering two pre-assembled kits designed to provide everything you need for a complete audio capture setup.
The IXO Podcast Pack is designed to give content creators and podcasters everything they need to produce social media audio and killer podcasts. This pack combines the IXO12 with the studio-quality ST-M01 condenser microphone, a pop filter, a tripod stand, and all necessary cables. Along with the previously bundled software with the standard version of the IXO12, this pack also comes with WaveLab Cast, a software program dedicated to creating audio for social media.
The IXO Recording Pack, on the other hand, offers an ideal introduction to music recording with the IXO22 interface bundled with ST-M01 condenser mic, the durable ST-H01 monitor headphones, and all necessary cables. Like the Podcasting Kit, this collection includes all software that comes with the base IXO22, plus WaveLab LE.
