Stream and Shred: the Blackstar FLY 3 Bluetooth Miniature Guitar Amplifier

0Share

Blackstar, the Northampton, England amplification company, has been producing guitar amplifiers and effects since 2007. At its core, Blackstar is made up of musicians who fully understand the importance of great tone, whether practicing at home or performing live on stage. The FLY 3 Bluetooth builds upon the original FLY 3, but with Bluetooth connectivity. The 3W mini-amplifier combines two channels (clean and overdrive), a tape delay effect with level and time controls, and the Infinite Shape Feature (ISF) EQ to create a compact and portable guitar amplifier well suited for any performer.

The amplifier was designed to offer the same tonal balance and feel as larger guitar amps, even at low volumes. Countless hours of research and development have gone into the cabinet design, ensuring the mathematical modeling retains the properties and bass response of a wood cabinet. The single full-range driver delivers a wide frequency response without the use of a crossover, which can impact the sound negatively. The patented ISF EQ allows you to choose different sonic signatures, including an American setting with a tight bottom end and aggressive middle, or a British characteristic with a woodier, less aggressive sound.

The FLY 3 includes an MP3/Line in and Bluetooth for jamming along or listening to music. The emulated line output provides silent practicing capabilities or can be used for recording. The optional FLY 103 extension cabinet can be added to the setup and provides an additional 3W of power for true stereo operation. The extension cabinet includes its own built-in cable that connects to the FLY 3 and further expands its potential as computer speakers and nearfield monitors. The FLY 3 can be powered by six AA batteries or via an optional power supply.
