3 Legged Thing Announces Its New Legends Tripods, Heads, and Systems

0Share

Say hello to our new friends Jay, Mike, and AirHed Cine, the new Legends line of tripods, heads, and kits just introduced by 3 Legged Thing. The JAY carbon fiber tripod comes as a 5-section tripod only or in a JAYKIT system with an AirHed fluid head, in Standard or Arca-Swiss versions, and the MIKE carbon fiber tripod comes as a 3-section tripod only or in a MIKEKIT system, with the AirHed Cine fluid head in Standard or Arca-Swiss versions.

The JAY tripod features lightweight carbon fiber legs with five sections that can extend up to 43", or it can be used at hi-hat level down to 4" by removing each leg individually for a low-angle setup with adjustable mini legs.

The MIKE tripod legs feature three sections that extend the tripod height up to 58", and you can also remove the legs individually to lower the tripod to a level of 5.3".

On both tripods, each leg can lock independently in three positions at 23, 55, and 80° using rapid-latch levers. Each leg section uses twist locks with 3LT's custom "Chicken Lips" anti-rotation shims for safety, all working together to make the tripod quick and easy to set up, adjust, and break down. When removed, each leg can be used as a monopod or boom, expanding the versatility of the tripod. Both JAY and MIKE tripods can support a load up to 30 lb and they are lightweight and compact when folded down. The legs are tipped with rubber "Bootz" for a non-slip surface grip, and they are also interchangeable, so you can use the 1/4"-20 thread on the end of each leg with optional accessories, such as spikes.

The AirHed Cine fluid head is constructed with a super-strong magnesium, and it's designed to work seamlessly with JAY and MIKE, providing friction drag control, 360° panning, and a silky-smooth -75 to 90° tilt. It comes in two versions: an Arca-Swiss version and a Standard "Manfrotto-compatible" version. The AirHed comes with a pan arm that can be used on either side by swapping rosettes for right- or left-handed use. It connects to the tripod with a 3/8"-16 thread, and the quick-release plate provides a choice of 3/8"-16 and 1/4"-20 threads to mount your camera, complete with safety pin to prevent twisting.

The MIKE and JAY team up with the AirHed Cine head in two MIKEKIT and two JAYKIT versions with either the Arca-Swiss-compatible plate or the standard plate. To balance your pan and tilt accurately, the AirHed Cine includes two bubble levels, and the MIKE and JAY legs also include one level of their own. The tripod head mount makes it easy to level the head with its quick-leveling base. The tripod legs, as well as the kits, come with a carrying case and a shoulder strap to store and transport the system safely.
