A Plethora of New PowerLite Projectors from Epson

With the big trade shows in our rearview mirror, it’s time for manufacturers to live up to their promises of the newest and best, and Epson is certainly doing its part by announcing a variety of new PowerLite projectors. There are ultra-short-throw models, large-venue options, and many others in between, and we’ll help you determine which is best for your business.

Ultra-short-throw projectors are great for use in classrooms and small-to-medium-sized boardrooms; thanks to their short throw distances, ambient light is less of an issue than with traditional projectors, so they don’t need to be quite as bright as their non-short-throw counterparts under the same circumstances. Three models are available: the 3200-lumen, 1280 x 800-resolution 675W, the 3500-lumen, 1024 x 768-resolution 680, and the 3500-lumen, 1280 x 800-resolution 685W. All three models will project a diagonal image of either 92.7" (680) or 100" (675W and 685W) with a throw distance less than 2', so whether it’s wall mounted or on a table or cart, shadows won’t be an issue for the presenter; this also means that the presenter can do their thing without being blinded by the projector.

The rest of the upcoming PowerLite models all feature a “standard” throw ratio, meaning that it’s neither short throw, ultra-short throw, or long throw, but with 16 other available models, there’s quite a range to choose from. The 975W, for example, is geared toward use in medium-sized, low-light venues, while the 1780W, 1785W, and 1795F are better for classrooms and small-to-medium-sized boardrooms. The 2040, 2065, 2140W, 2155W, and 2245u are well suited for boardrooms and large venues, while the 2165W, 2250U, 2255U, 2265U, 5520W, 5530U, and 5535U will function well in large venues and relatively bright boardrooms.

To simplify all this, I put a chart together highlighting their throw ratios and distances, brightness, resolution, wireless connectivity options, and typical applications. If you’re looking to make an Epson projector a fixture in your business, this chart should be a good place to start.
