NAB 2023: Sony Pro Video Roundup

Here at NAB 2023, Sony’s latest exciting pro video offerings include a new 3D spatial reality display, a 30.5" TRIMASTER reference monitor, an 18.4" production monitor, and two broadcast style 2/3" 4K video cameras.

Immersive 3D Optics

Create amazing 3D optical experiences using Sony’s new ELF-SR2 4K Spatial Reality Display. Equipped with a 27" 4K LCD panel with 3840 x 2160 resolution, the ELF-SR2’s fast facial recognition and Eye-Sensing Light Field Display (ELFD) eye-tracking tech continuously follows the viewer's gaze from a wide range of viewing angles. This display uses unique spatial imaging techniques to produce sharp, clear images with accurate color reproduction, making it ideal for 3D industrial design, architectural, engineering, and construction rendering, game design, healthcare and surgical imaging, retail displays, and entertainment. The special glass used in the display eliminates the need for viewing glasses or a VR headset, creating a comfortable working and viewing experience.

The ELF-SR2 works with Unity and Unreal Engine 4, enabling you to export new or existing 3D content easily using Sony's Software Development Kit (SDK). Its large 27" display screen enables full-size viewing of merchandise plus more, and offers flexible desktop, retail-pedestal, and articulated-arm mounting options.

2/3" 4K Broadcast Cameras

Live production shooters will appreciate the new 2/3" 4K broadcast-style HDC-5500V and HDC-3500V cameras. Each incorporates a variable ND filter mechanism for on-the-fly exposure adjustments and a slide bracket for supporting the new Sony HDVF-EL760/EL740 OLED viewfinders. Pair these cameras with an HDCU-5000 or HDCU-3500 CCU (camera control unit) for up to 4x high-speed capture and to support up to four parallel content versions for displaying different ads to individual audiences (HDC-5500V). Multiple remote capabilities including gain, ND adjustments, and lens control can be accessed using a single joystick via the virtual IRIS function. Both cameras are compatible with the optional HDCE-TX50 IP extension unit, simplifying your IP output without the need for a CCU. With a built-in global shutter, the HDC-3500V camera is ideal for freezing fast-paced sports action, eliminating unwanted “jell-o” effects and banding.

TRIMASTER HX BVM-HX3110 and LMD-A180 Monitors

In addition to the new spatial reality display, Sony has also released two new monitors for optimal viewing of your 2D video capture: the 30.5" TRIMASTER HX BVM-HX3110 4K HDR reference monitor and the lightweight 18.4" LMD-A180 production monitor.

BVM-HX3110
BVM-HX3110

Designed to support pro cine capture and post-production workflows including VFX and grading, the 30.5" TRIMASTER HX BVM-HX3110 4K HDR provides outstanding 4K HDR images on a 4096 x 2160-resolution display. This pro monitor offers HDR/SDR conversion, support for wide color gamuts and S-Log2 and S-Log3, wide viewing angles, and a brightness of 4000 cd/m². The single-cable 12G-SDI input, plus 3G-SDI and HDMI connections, provide a flexible interface while the Ethernet port eliminates the need for an IP-SDI converter. TRIMASTER HX technology delivers optimal color accuracy, crisp images, and high consistency using an anti-reflective LCD panel featuring higher peak luminance, greater contrast, and a faster pixel response. A selection of optional licenses offers functions like 3D LUT output, HDR/SDR conversion output, fast response, and more.

LMD-A180
LMD-A180

The LMD-A180 provides a lightweight option for portable viewing of up to 4K video with the same familiar user interface as the rest of the LMD series. Suitable for on-set, studio, and broadcast use, this 1920 x 1080 resolution monitor offers an affordable 4K HDR solution with DCI-P3 and S-GAMUT/S-GAMUT3/S-GAMUT3.cine settings and 2.6 gamma, S-Log3 and S-Log2. It supports Quad-link 2SI 3G-SDI signals, the BT.2020 color space, and functions such as focus peaking, camera and lens metadata display, PiP (picture in picture), and graphics applications. Physically, this slim, lightweight monitor offers a memory-saving power-on function, a detachable handle, rack mounting, and relatively low power consumption.
