If you own a Panasonic Lumix GH6 Mirrorless Camera, your camera functionality just got even better, with the release of the latest v2.2 firmware. Version 2.2 provides updates to allow USB-to-SSD recording, improvements in raw recording ISO limits, and improved image quality.
External USB SSD Support
Sometimes the internal cards are not enough for long shoots, and it can be faster to pass your footage to post if it’s already on an external drive. Now, you’ll be able to record photos and videos directly out of the GH6 USB port onto an external SSD. The camera can output onto any USB Type-C drive up to 2TB and includes support for Samsung T5, SanDisk E81, and SanDisk E61 SSDs.
When the USB-SSD setting is set to ON, the camera can output high-quality ProRes 422 HQ or 10-bit All-Intra up to 60 fps directly onto the SSD. Although you won’t be able to record simultaneously onto an SD or CFexpress card, using a fast, high-capacity SSD makes long-form recording easy.
Raw Video Output Improvements
You can now select different ISO settings (8000/10000/12800) when HDMI Raw Data Output and Dynamic Range Boost are enabled, providing more flexibility in raw recording.
The update also provides an image-quality enhancement, improving a streaking issue in the previous firmware. Prepare to have about 30 minutes set aside for the firmware upgrade, and a method of getting the firmware files onto your memory card. The update takes place in two parts: first an update to v2.1 and then it automatically updates to v2.2.
