Zacuto Kameleon Micro-OLED EVF Blends Well with SDI and HDMI Cameras

Though Zacuto's line of Gratical EVFs already covers a wide range of cameras, the company just introduced the Kameleon EVF, a welcome Micro-OLED addition that adds to its already impressive Gratical EVF line. The Kameleon is similar in size to Zacuto’s Gratical Eye, and its features fall somewhere between the Gratical X and Gratical HD with SDI and HDMI inputs, brightness, color depth, and LUT support, but it edges beyond them with 4K input, higher resolution, larger screen size, and redesigned joystick controls.

With so many 4K+ cameras now being released, it really helps to have an EVF that matches or even comes close to viewing the color and resolution of what is being recorded. The Kameleon's approach improves on Zacuto’s previous EVFs with its 16:9 aspect ratio and 1920 x 1080p60 resolution to help your eye judge the preferred framing and composition of your shot. With its 10,000:1 contrast ratio, 3103 PPI, 24-bit color depth, and 250 cd/m2 brightness, you'll be able to focus and adjust your shots more accurately.

The Kameleon comes with one HDMI input and one SDI input, so a wide range of camera types can use its features. The HDMI input supports up to 4K resolution and the SDI input supports up to 1080p. The 0.71 display size is larger than Zacuto’s previous EVF models, which facilitates its higher 1080p resolution. Like the other EVFs, the Kameleon features a rotating diopter ring to adjust focus to match your eyesight, and it also supports optional drop-in diopter replacements to boost magnification by +1, +2, or +3 factors. The EVF also includes Zacuto's patented anti-fog lens and auto-closing eyecup to prevent fog, dust, and anything that might prevent you from viewing a clear image.

In addition to the improved display resolution and size, the Kameleon comes with a set of tools to help capture the best image in any environment. Like its predecessors, the Kameleon comes with 1D and 3D LUT presets, and its USB Type-C port also allows you to import custom LUTs to view the proper color format in real time when shooting in various Log formats. A redesigned 4-position joystick lets you to navigate the menu to control features such as 4:1 zoom, false color, peaking, zebra, histogram, audio meters, anamorphic, and markers, as well as selecting and loading LUTs. The menus also allow you to control EVF calibration settings such as RGB, brightness, saturation, hue, and contrast.

The Kameleon can be mounted on your camera or rig with built-in ARRI-style rosettes and 1/4"-20 threads for mounting, and it's powered via a 4-pin 7-20V LEMO port. If you’re looking for a compact, high-resolution, professional viewfinder for your HDMI or SDI camera with a slew of great features for monitoring 4K/HD video, check out Zacuto's Kameleon EVF and compare it to Zacuto's other Gratical EVF products on the B&H Photo Website or in the B&H Photo SuperStore.
