Zacuto Gratical Eye overview

  • 1Description

With the Gratical Eye, Zacuto takes the highly regarded 0.61", 1280 x 1024 micro OLED panel found in their Gratical HD and packs into an EVF that weighs just 14 oz and fits into the palm of your hand. In order to keep the EVF small and compact, it features a round design and it equipped with only a single 3G-SDI input that supports up to 1080p60 video, a 2-pin LEMO power connector, and a USB port for firmware updates. Not content at being just a professional-grade EVF that produces natural looking images with a 10,000:1 contrast ratio, the Gratical Eye is equipped with a FPGA dual core processor to support the full set of monitoring and image analysis features found on the larger Gratical HD, including LUT support, vectorscope and waveform displays, and peaking, which are controlled using a joystick-style button on the back of the unit. With its compact size and full feature set, the Gratical Eye is an EVF ideally suited for use with professional SDI cameras and rigs using external power solutions.

    Zacuto Gratical Eye reviews

Gratical Eye Micro OLED EVF is rated 4.0 out of 5 by 7.
Rated 4 out of 5 by from Must have for FS7 or any shoulder rig configuration It's hard to rate a product when it's the fist EVF you are buying, but this one just save my slowly defective eyes where camera screen slowly get impossible to watch closely for focus. It's also a life saver in bright outside. The use is very simple with only one button to access all, but you get use to it very quickly. It's light and very clear with a second part of the screen showing plenty of information. Yes, you can't turn it off, but it's no big deal as you power it with a large battery usually. So, it will not drain so much after all. And I'm just unplug in the BP to turn it off. the thing I don't like: - Very plastic feeling on your eye and not so comfortable by warm temperature. - The clap to avoid sun is not holing too much and easy to get lost. I know it's hard to get this kind of design working, but I ended removing it when I know I will be shooting inside. - The bigger issue it the design of the lemo plug from Zaccuto. It's on 90 degrees BNC and one straight lemo, making the thing very fragile in front of it and not convenient when you want to put in in a bag, You have to unplug every time. I have changed it with a 90 degree lemo and it's now perfect.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Fantastic Viewfinder for less than 5,000 dollars. If you've used an Alexa or a Phantom then you know the value of a good, sharp, viewfinder. False Color and Peaking is like wheels on a car for a viewfinder in my opinion and any car worth driving needs wheels, so their inclusion in the feature list of this VF, though elementary, indispensable. With That Being Said,... the inclusion of, 1D Lut support (.cube), Waveforms, Histograms, Trigger and T/C support for most, if not all Sonys Canons and Reds, fantastic form factor, build quality, great Loupe optics with Diopter and 1 stage Anti Fog built in, Additional Anti-Fog elements Included, sharp screen and Anamorphic Desqueeze for 1.33, 1.66, 2.0 for both 4:3 and 16:9 for most ratios, when allied to an intuitive, customizable physical interface, that's significant. More so considering the price. I bought mine on sale and at BH on special so the price paid at the the time is too low to actually quite comprehend. I've used VF's that cost more than 2 times the price of this Zacuto when it costs 1950.00 and have been thoroughly disappointed. I'm still slightly blown away at the value for money in this piece. It must be said that one should consider the Axis VF mount a required purchase with this item, as it's 1/4-20 thread on the Rossette. Bottomline: If you have a D-Tap/P-Tap and SDI out, get this VF if you need a VF for your VF needs.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Should have gotten it sooner I was using the LED screen with a view finder adapter, but it wasn't very good. I got this unit and the world became sharp to me. Easy to use, sharp picture, love the unit.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Really amazing VF Exceeded my expectations. Set up was a breeze and I'm still tweaking my settings and functions, but the scopes and crisp diopter really give you a sharp focus!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent but limited with an EVA1 Super sharp and great portable size (if you have the additional power). Unfortunately, it takes up an SDI port and if your camera has only 1 port, you may be limited in what you can do. I don't recommend this for a Panasonic EVA1. You won't be able to shoot RAW or use an external recorder over SDI and get camera menus/info.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Product is good but there are disadvantages In the product it is connected directly to the battery power source when the power switch is not a problem arises in that the battery is consumed. Other features and characteristics of the products are good.
