Learning About iPads, Tablets & Electronic Readers
Modern iPad and Android tablets are incredibly powerful. In addition to web browsing and video streaming, today's tablets are capable of satisfying graphic designers, photo editors, video editors, and other types of power users. With a thoughtful accessory such as a tablet keyboard, it may seem difficult to justify going back to laptops or desktops. Tablets are great for taking notes, snapping photos and videos, and producing artwork (check out graphic tablets and tablet pens!) If you want a portable machine capable of handling your work and personal needs, than a tablet could be the perfect option for you.
What Type of Tablet Should I Get?
Deciding on a tablet begins with choosing an operating system. Apple iPads are very popular and run exclusively on iOS, so if you are loyal to Apple, the iPad might be right for you. However, there are other tablets that run Android, Windows, and Google Chrome operating systems. Selecting an operating system comes down to personal preference. Some other decisions may involve the screen size or the amount of memory it comes with. If you want to store numerous photo galleries, and perhaps edit videos on your device, then you'll want to look for one with a larger storage capacity. If you only want a tablet for checking email and snapping the occasional picture, then you'll likely be satisfied with an entry-level model that has a dual-core processor.
What Does It Mean When a Tablet Is Wi-Fi Only?
Many Android tablets and Apple iPads come pre-programmed to work with specific wireless carriers. If you want to be able to access the internet in a remote location that doesn't offer Wi-Fi, then you'll appreciate having the option to get internet on your device, for an additional fee. This is similar to purchasing an unlocked smartphone, which allows you to join any wireless carrier. It's possible to purchase a tablet with Wi-Fi-only access, which is an excellent option if you have continuous and predictable access to Wi-Fi. The benefits of having a Wi-Fi-only device are hard to beat. There are no monthly fees, and you get access to open Wi-Fi networks wherever you go.
If you want a portable smart device that bridges smartphones and computers, then a tablet could be right for you. Check out the large selection of iPads and other tablets at B&H Photo Video.
