New Life for PocketWizard Plus II

Through the course of many many years, I have a habit of buying photo gear when I see it on sale. Inspired by the Strobist movement, I eventually obtained two pairs (4 total) of PocketWizards Plus IIs. I no longer do much portrait photography and my PocketWizards have been adorning a plastic storage box like true champions. My covid-19 Marie Kondo inspired tendencies have been generating an itch for me to find meaning or purpose in my low mileage PocketWizards. Within the last two years, I've gotten more interested in night photography which has required long shutter speeds and many repetitive exposures. After visiting Palouse Falls State Park in Eastern Washington state in 2019, where I manually triggered the shutter and sat and waited out a 7-15 minute exposures and got up and repeated the process, I casually concluded that getting a wireless remote would be a mild game changer for me. Yearning and planning for my next night photo outing, Kondo-ing storage boxes in my gear cabinet, and reviewing casual camera wish list, I decided to purchase a PocketWizard N10-ACC-1 remote camera cable and thereby giving my PocketWizard Plus II some new life. I found moderate satisfaction in pairing old gear to new camera related pursuits. The cable suited my needs: When the PocketWizards are properly installed, I can trigger the camera wirelessly. Not having to touch the camera is key. I have the shutter speed and aperture setting drilled down in (M)anual mode and the mirror up is enabled and I'm off to wireless trigger heaven in probably colder than comfortable environmental settings.

It is a cable

When I first ordered this cable I had no idea on how it would change my life. Here I thought it was a simple cable, black wire, proper connectors to interface between a Nikon 10-pin and Pocket Wizard, but I was wrong it was so much more! Since this cable has arrived my photography has changed in many amazing ways. Colors are more saturated, strobes more even, composition happens so naturally and perfectly it could only be an externalization of the amazing abilities fo the N10-ACC-1 Remote Camera Cable or NANCY as I now call her. She is always by my side influencing my every decision. I simply do not know how I lived without this cable!

question

Can this perform like a half shutter press?
Asked by: Nicanor B.
If you are using a Plus III as a transmitter, yes, it can. A MultiMAX with an -ACC port can also pre trigger your camera. If you add a PTMM adapter, you can keep half press constantly turned on with any PocketWizard.

question

Is this works on Nikon D810 with Pocket wizard FlexTT5 Transceiver with AC3 zone controller?. I want to trigger from Nikon D810 mounted with PW FlexTT5 to two Nikon D610 which is also connected via Pocket wizard FlexTT5. Want use AC3 zone controller so I can select which camera to take 2nd shot.
Asked by: Philip
I hadn't though of that but I did a quick test and the camera triggering port seems to ignore the zones. You could program two channels and switch from C1 to C2 to fire different cameras. This was a very basic test, and that is what I saw.
