Onkyo M-5010 Overview

Easily add two channels of power to your home theater surround sound or multi-room audio setup with the M-5010 2-Channel Power Amplifier from Onkyo. This amplifier utilizes Onkyo's WRAT (Wide Range Amplifier Technology) with three-stage Inverted Darlington Circuitry to provide wide dynamic range and distortion-free sound.

Stereo RCA input is available to receive analog audio signals, and stereo RCA output allows you to daisy-chain that signal to additional amplifiers. The M-5010 is built around a thick, anti-resonant metal chassis with an aluminum faceplate for extra vibration resistance. For your convenience, the amp is equipped with a 12V trigger switch, banana plug-compatible speaker binding posts, and input level control.

Low Negative Feedback Circuit Design
Negative feedback amplifiers reduce distortion by feeding the negative phase of the output signal back into the input signal to cancel errors. Although this method is a cheap way to reduce noise, it can inhibit the amp's ability to reproduce high frequencies. It can also dampen responsiveness, leaving music sounding flat and dull. Onkyo's WRAT design instead uses an ultra-low negative feedback circuit. The design expands frequency response, boosts current, and allows audio to blossom with startling energy and realism.
Less Distortion at High Volume
Another facet of WRAT is the closed ground loop circuit design to keep the ground potential free of distortion. In a conventional open-loop circuit design, where all circuits share the same link to the power supply, any noise produced by voltage fluctuation is compounded, affecting audio quality. To avoid this, each circuit in the M-5010 has its own separate link to the power supply, cutting noise and promoting more reliable, efficient performance at any volume.
High Current for Wider Dynamics
Impedance fluctuations and reflex energy from the loudspeakers can force your amplifier to briefly handle four to six times its usual load. If its power supply is not up to scratch, signal clipping can occur, and audio quality suffers noticeably. A key element of WRAT is its ability to deliver high instantaneous current, preserving a wide 100 kHz frequency response for expansive performance under the most demanding conditions.
Three-Stage Inverted Darlington Circuitry
An important upgrade to the core WRAT concept is Onkyo's Three-Stage Inverted Darlington Circuitry, a low negative feedback topology featuring a discrete triple transistor array to cut distortion and boost current flow to the speakers. As well as improving efficiency, transient response, and audio clarity, discrete transistors run cooler, extending the life of your output stage for more years of trouble-free service.
High Output Power Supply
From input to output, signal purity is maintained at every stage. Housed in a rigid anti-resonant steel-plate chassis and finished with a tough, one-piece aluminum front panel, the M-5010 is highly resistant to vibration. A massive EI transformer delivers a steady supply of power to the speakers, while two large 10,000 μF capacitors, heavy-duty transistors, and low-impedance copper bus bars work in concert to enhance the power and fidelity of your audio sources. A heavy-duty aluminum heat sink keeps the unit running cool for superior reliability and longer life.

Onkyo M-5010 Reviews

The PERFECT amp for my computer room audio!

I'm not using this as part of a surround-home-theater set-up, but rather to drive a pair of Infinity Primus 150 bookshelf speakers, and send a signal to a Polk PSW10 powered subwoofer, all connected to my iMac 5K. I bought the amp (and sub) in January, 2019 and it has been fantastic! (I've had the Infinity pair since 2005.) I replaced a 50w/ch Audio-Source amp that suddenly decided to stop working, and was very happy to find this pure, connection-ready 75w/ch amp from Onkyo! Better, fuller sound; the Infinitys NEED a great amp, because THEY are awesome for acoustic music and subtleties of performance-space ambience. I listen to mostly acoustic music (classical and jazz)

Great amp for expanding the RZ50 from 7.2.2-7.2.4

I Used this amp to expand my RZ50 from 7.2.2 to 7.2.4 so now I can run 4 Atmos speakers and it sounds so much better. I was missing the back atmos now I have full 360 degree sound. This amp sounds great . I have it powering my klipsch RP-600M as my surround rear speakers plug into the RCA pre output. Then you take and wire your rear height/ atmos speakers into the surround rear speakers positive and negative post . Then when you set your speaker configurations to 7.2.4 it gives you a second height channel but takes away your rear surround and that’s why you use this 2 channel amp for your rear surrounds .
