    Focal Spirit Pro reviews

Spirit Professional Headphones is rated 3.5 out of 5 by 4.
Rated 2 out of 5 by from Fantastically Disappointed! I bought these as studio reference headphones. PROS: Fantastically flat frequency response and audio value. In terms of reference audio quality, it competes with any sub-$1000 headphones. CONS: This is a deal-breaker--FRAGILE! These are not meant to beat around and even under the most careful use, the plastic in the headband will wear out and crack. Every time I put these on, I was holding my breath to see it this would be the time they would snap. I'm not comfortable with how they flex in the headband and some basic internet searching will show where they are prone to cracking where the ear cup attaches to the headband. I ended up returning these, since it defeats the purpose of having them, if I'm too afraid to use them!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Sonically near perfect, true reference A little background: I am both involved in sound professionally, as well as a young but passionate audiophile. I have heard many of the most highly regarded headphones ever made including the Audeze LCD-2 and LCD-3, the sennheiser HD 800 on a well-paired amp, Sennheiser HD650, HD600 through reference DACs, most of the beyerdynamic phones, all the Shure phones like the 1840 (I also own the SE846 and SE535), the top-of-the-line in ear Westones, TOTLS custom in-ears like JH13 and the Roxannes amongst countless others (almost all well-regarded phones, save the very new releases).I have been searching for audio perfection in this process, and always found each headphone to be flawed in some way or the other. That is, until now. The focal spirit pro is one of the least flawed headphones I have ever heard. It is (along with the focal spirit classic) one of the most neutral, most detailed and natural sounding headphones I have heard, and definitely the best in the price range. The focals render voices very naturally (one of my main criteria for a good headphone), have a deep and well defined bass, and a ever so slightly elevated frequency response in the upper mids and treble region (with next to no sibilance, unless the recording itself is sibilant) that creates an open and detailed sound that I did not think was possible at this price point. And to make things even better they are easy to drive, and sound good out of a smart phone (although I would recommend at least using lossless files).Sound wise, this is probably the best sub-$ dollar headphone I have heard and by far the best sub $ dollar headphone. It may be a cliche, but with these, you hear sound just the way it was recorded; just the way it was intended. In other words, these are a perfect REFERENCE headphone. The only thing to watch out for is a high clamp pressure (which focal probably did to improve noise isolation in studio environments and I appreciate) which might be uncomfortable for people with large heads. However, if you carefully stretch the headphones out, you can relieve some of the high pressure (but be very careful not to damage this work of art!). Another problem some have reported is that the ear cups, which are on the smaller side, touch the outside of their ear which could be irritating for people with large years. I have medium sized ears and face no problem. Also, the durability is something that only time will tell. They don't feel like a headphone you can toss around, but they don't feel like they need to be babied, either. In conclusion, if you have small to medium sized head and ears, this is IMHO the best bargain currently in terms of sonic performance, not just for the professional, but for anyone who wants a nuanced and meaningful insight into their music (or any sound file whatsoever).

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Sound is Great! Feel not so great. I'm a pro mixer and recording engineer. I currently use and trust my Focal CMS 65 Studio Monitors, I Love them and believe they make my recording/mixing experience the best it can be. However, the Focal spirit Pros sound equally as good I just couldn't ware them for long periods of time, they are not that comfortable for me at all, so I had to return them. I did spend a little more money for another set of headphones which I'll review shortly.
