  • 1Description

The black HD Pentax DA 15mm f/4 ED AL Limited Lens from Pentax is a compact prime wide-angle lens providing a 35mm-equivalent focal length of 23mm. The lens' optical design includes features extra-low dispersion glass and one hybrid aspherical elements to minimize chromatic aberrations and limit distortion in order to enable a natural-looking expansive angle of view that is well-suited to both indoor and outdoor scenes. A high-grade multi-layer HD coating has been applied to lens elements to help minimize flare and ghosting for enhanced contrast, clarity, and color fidelity and a rounded seven-blade diaphragm contributes to an aesthetic out-of-focus quality to benefit shallow depth of field imagery. Additionally, an SP Protect coating has also been applied to the front lens element to effectively protect it from dirt, oil, and finger prints.

The compact form-factor of this lens integrates Pentax's Quick-Shift Focus System, which allows manual focus control over the lens at any time, even in AF mode, for precise handling over the focal plane.

Pentax 15mm f/4.0 reviews

HD Pentax DA 15mm f/4 ED AL Limited Lens (Black) is rated 4.9 out of 5 by 28.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Fantastic Lens I was studying up on old fashioned prime lenses when I chanced upon this lens, which is unavailable in Australia. The wide angle, the depth of field scale and the 18cm close focus meant it would be ideal for model train photography. It is a beautifully made lens, like the old 50mm lenses you used to get on the Pentax K1000. The depth of field is amazing, especially important on shooting model trains in close proximity to the lens, it's extremely sharp and it gives such fine detail, I realize now I have a few dead pixels on my sensor, which I hadn't seen before using my normal day 18-250mm lens ! There is no distortion whatsoever. It would have to be the best lens to get for serious model train photography !

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Amazing aura of quality This lens just oozes quality build. It focuses quickly and quietly and the images with it are very clean and sharp. Its focal length makes it is ideal for indoor use as well as for wide scenery shots. Images on the sides of the lens will be normal, though in the corners of the lens there is some stretch. Between this prime 15 mm and my prime 50 mm I find I rarely need any other lens. Only downside is max aperture of f 4.0. Bokeh is not necessary with a wide angle, but in low light it is a limitation when trying to capture moving children.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Very High Quality Collectable Excellent prime lens for landscape and travel. Picture quality is outstanding. Solid built and light. I have the silver one and it is beautiful. Some users complain about the screw in lens cap.. I bought a SENSEI clip-on lens cap$ to solve the problem. Also some mentioned the fact that it would be difficult to use Cokin/Lee filter systems due to the built in lens hood. I put a Hoya UV filter on it and it protrudes enough to get my COKIN system working. So... GREAT LENS, all positive!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Wonderful Wide Angle Lens This lens is just as good as the reviews I read everywhere before deciding to buy it. I initially purchased a used copy and had to return it due to lack of sharpness in the corners and excessive chromatic aberration. I returned the used one and purchased a new copy which works great. I have tested the sharpness and taken a few dozen botanical garden scenic pictures which are all very sharp with great color definition. I am really pleased with the lens.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Excellent quality Using this lens for night photography, with the focus on the heavens above. The sharpness, colour contrast and quality is excellent. It would have been a better lens if built as F2.8 rather than F4. Still very happen and would recommend this lens.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Sweet Little Prime I am in the midst of changing from zoom lenses to a series of primes. The primes give better image quality and as importantly they make me consider the shot before I click the shutter. I had the Pentax 12-24 and while a great lens it is also huge, and made me a lazy photographer. I purchased this DA 15 (and the DA 21); I believe my photographs are superior with the primes. The 15mm HD has different (and most would consider inferior) starbursts to the previous SMC model but the current 15 handles flare much better. The 15mm is a bit too wide for a walk around lens but, then again, wearing it on my K-3 for a day challenges me to see differently, and that's not a bad thing. All in all, this is a great lens, and I'm beginning to think for the active amateur, primes are a great choice.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great lens Just picked up this lens recently. After purchasing the 35mm & 50mm plastic fantastics I found they were not wide enough. Loving it so far. I am an avid railfan and will use this lens on my Pentax K5 II as my go to lens for taking train photos. The only drawbacks I have so far with just a few hours of shooting are as follows. The lens cap screws on and off and when I am in a hurry to capture a photo of a moving train it is difficult to remove quickly. Also the lens does seem soft in the corners but that might be operator error. I might have to increase the shutter speed to get the moving train in focus in the whole frame. The edges were a tad blurry and I was shooting at 1/500. Other then that I think I am really going to like this lens as I can get a huge train engine in frame and it shows great detail & color. I also plan on using this lens for some landscape photos in Brown County Indiana. Can't wait until October of this year to capture the great fall colors with this lens.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from sharp I bought the 20-40mm and 15mm to replace the 16 - 45mm lenses. Although the 16-45 is a good lens, I was keen on extra sharpness and around quality. The 15mm is similar in sharpness in the centre but has far better sharpness in the corners and better contrast. I would like to use with street photography, so the smaller size is also nice. The bokeh is also nice and soft. Well made with a classy finish. Yes I would recommend this lens.
