Pentax 35mm f/2.8 overview

  • 1Description

The black HD Pentax DA 35mm f/2.8 Macro Limited Lens from Pentax is a prime normal-length lens providing a 35mm-equivalent focal length of 53.5mm. Its macro designation enables a 1:1 magnification ratio for creating life-size imagery as close as 5.5" away. A high-grade multi-layer HD coating has been applied to lens elements to help minimize flare and ghosting for enhanced contrast, clarity, and color fidelity and a nine-blade diaphragm contributes to an aesthetic out-of-focus quality to benefit shallow depth of field imagery. Additionally, an SP Protect coating has also been applied to the front lens element to effectively protect it from dirt, oil, and finger prints.

The compact form-factor of this lens integrates Pentax's Quick-Shift Focus System, which allows manual focus control over the lens at any time, even in AF mode, for precise handling over the focal plane.

Prime normal-length lens provides a 35mm-equivalent focal length of 53.5mm, covering a natural perspective that is well-suited to everyday applications.
Macro 1:1 magnification ratio enables life-size imaging from a minimum focusing distance of 5.5".
High-grade multi-layer HD coating minimizes lens flare and ghosting to enhance contrast and color neutrality.
Quick-Shift Focus System enables manual focus control at all times for precise handling that is well-suited to selective focus imagery.
Super Protect coating helps to protect the front lens element from dirt and finger marks.
Built-in pull-out type lens hood helps to protect the front lens element from stray light as well as scratching or accidental drops.

Pentax 35mm f/2.8 reviews

HD Pentax DA 35mm f/2.8 Macro Limited Lens (Black) is rated 4.9 out of 5 by 11.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Nice lens, sharp focus I am a confirmed Nikon man, but purchased my K3 because neither Nikon nor Canon understand the concept of rain. Originally I bought the weatherproof K3 and an assortment of weather resistant lenses, but the more I use the Pentax, the more I like it. Sure, it may not focus as fast or as quietly as the my D800s, but it can produce some really nice work. I decided to invest in a few prime lenses for work on sunny days, and this one is very nice. It's great for general purpose wide angle work, and the minimum focus distance makes macro work a breeze. Well made and very, very sharp focus.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Very sharp lens! I bought this lens after reading reviews on B&H and Pentax Forums, and everything people say about its image quality/sharpness is true. The only caution to anyone buying this as a primary macro lens that if you want to take closeups of bugs or living things, the short focal length may not work for you because you have to get really close to the subject. On a tripod, shooting landscapes or city street scapes results in excellent quality images.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Lens I bought this lens only a few weeks ago so I have not had time to fully try it out. So far, however, these are the things that I have found that I really like about this lens. 1) It looks and feels solid and well made. 2) The lens is very sharp. It is sharp not only in the center but also at the edges of the picture. 3) I like the focal length. I find it works well for me both indoors and out. 4) I like the fact that it is a macro lens. This is the one feature of the lens that I have not yet explored. 5) I like the ingenious built-in lens hood. 6) This lens has a quick-shift mechanism which allows you to manually focus at any time. I have this feature on a couple of other Pentax lenses and have found it to be very useful. 7) This lens, in my opinion, produces vivid colors. 8) I like the lightness and smaller size of this lens. 9) This lens focuses accurately and reasonably fast. I can only think of a couple things concerning this lens that are draw backs. 1) It is not weather sealed. 2) I have another macro lens and it is equipped with a focus limiter this one is not. My initial impressions concerning this lens are very positive. I am happy with this purchase.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Fantastic Lens! All around use, and some Marco duty. Razor sharp. A little bit of hunting in Marco mode.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from A unique, excellent lens for a nice price This lens is small, light, well built, macro, corresponds to a standard lens on an APS-C camera, and is very, very sharp already at full aperture. Cherries on the cake, it takes 'Pentax standard' 49mm filter, and it has a very convenient hood built-in. Cannot ask for more than this.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Pentax 34mm or Sigma 18-35 F1.8 Nothing against this lens at all but for $ more you can get the Sigma 18-35 F1.8 .And we all know thats why none of the Pentax lens that are between 18mm and 40mm prime lens are being sold.People know that the Sigma 18-35 f1.8 is like having a 18mm,19mm,20mm all the way up to 35mm prime lens all in one lens .And its sharper than the pentax 35mm 2.8 prime lens. Pentax is going to have to reduce the price of this lens. It makes no sense to pay this kind of money for one lens when you get better pictures from the Sigma lens and have 18 lens build into one lens that better and they are all f1.8 .

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Lives up to all the fantastic reviews I am not a native of beautiful Colorado, but I got there as quick as I could! I only mention this because I moved from the second most beautiful state in the nation, Minnesota , eight year ago. I was inspired to share this special place with family and friends back in Minnesota and though I started with a great Panasonic point and shoot, I soon wanted more camera that would allow me to push my creativity further. My first DSLR was the Pentax K50 which was a great camera. Early on, the camera was way smarter than me, but I eventually caught up to a degree. Early 2016, I graduated a bit in my expertise as an amateur and sold the K50 to a friend and purchased the K3 Pentax. Amazing camera! With the in body shake reduction, I find I can hand hold low light shots at 1/4 sec without blur. (I do use a tripod in most lowlight situations, but wanted to point out how great the Pentax camera body's are ) I have built my kit with three Pentax Limited prime lenses and the Pentax 50-300 zoom. The 15mm and the 70mm Limited are great lenses and have a definite niche in my bag. My latest 35mm Macro Limited prime arrived on my doorstep Friday August fifth 2016 and I had the opportunity to put it to the test all weekend. From deep color and sharp contrast and crystal clear images at the Golden Colorado Super Cruise car show last weekend, to Colorado mountain wild flowers using the better than advertised Macro close ups with beautiful Bokeh...........I could not be happier with this lens. I would say I am an advanced beginner as far as my level of expertise, so I can't give you a critique of this lens the way professionals can using proper jargon, but knowing what I have seen with my own eyes, if I was told I could only have one lens for my K3, this would be it. B & K had the lowest price on this lens, and I am more than happy to continue to do business with them, as they have great customer service and very, very helpful tutorials on You Tube

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Very nice prime macro lens I bought this lens when I bought the Pentax K-1 in November 2017. There is a little corner vignetting in full frame mode that is easy to crop. I use crop or square mode with no problems. Excellent lens and camera for wildflower photos. Good macro depth of field.
