We bought this for work a few years ago and have used it a handful of times to get continuity or voltage tests on laptops etc. I went to use it yesterday, and the only thing it displays is 1.66666 on the screen. I replaced the battery and got the same results. I don't think this is a great item if it breaks with very light use. It appears another user has had the same issue in these reviews.

will is devise check for a broken wire?
Yes, to a limited degree, if the wire is completely broken with no partial contacts at the point of the break, and If the tip of each test lead can touch the wire connection at each end of the wire. Using the continuity buzzer feature you can tone out the wire. If there is no tone, the wire is broken. If there is a tone, then some or all of the wire is connected. You will not be able to tell where the wire is broken. If the wire is partially broken, the continuity buzzer will still sound.
