DJI CP.PT.000018 Overview

The DJI Phantom with GoPro Mount is a quad-rotor RC helicopter provided without a battery, charger, or transmitter (controller) for users who already have these components and are just replacing the copter itself. (Please note, the copter requires rebinding with your existing controller.)

The Phantom acts as an aerial platform for a GoPro HERO action camera. This product will appeal to a variety of potential users, from RC aircraft hobbyists seeking the ability to mount a camera so they can record their flights, to videographers and photographers looking to open up a whole new range of shooting possibilities. It is sold without batteries or a charger for those who already own an existing battery system they can use.

The Phantom can achieve a maximum horizontal flight speed of 33 ft/s and can ascend and descend at up to 20 ft/s.

Because of the complexity associated with multi-rotor aircraft, the Phantom relies on the Naza-M autopilot system. This system uses GPS for navigation and to maintain flight stability. While fully manual operation is possible, most users, especially videographers hoping to get the smoothest possible shoots, will opt for GPS Flight Mode. GPS Mode is an autopilot system that keeps the Quadcopter stable and right-side-up when moving, and holds it in a fixed horizontal and vertical position whenever the controls are released.

Warning: Never use the DJI Phantom Quadcopter with your GoPro camera when both devices have their Wi-Fi systems turned on. The DJI Phantom's Wi-Fi and the GoPro camera's Wi-Fi run on the same frequency, so if you use them together when both Wi-Fi systems are engaged, the DJI Phantom's transmitter will lose the ability to communicate with the DJI Phantom Quadcopter. Whenever this happens, you will not be able to tell the Phantom where to fly. This may result in loss of property or damage to your equipment.

Attitude and GPS Flight Modes
The Phantom Quadcopter has two GPS-assisted flight modes for you to choose from. Of the two, GPS Mode is the most automatic. In GPS Mode the Quadcopter will stop as soon as you release the controls, and will stay hovering at a fixed horizontal and vertical position. This setting is the easiest to fly and is generally preferred for shooting video as the Quadcopter won't drift or be as susceptible to wind gusts.

GPS Attitude Mode, or Attitude Mode, is a more manual flying mode in which the Phantom Quadcopter does not try and maintain a fixed spatial position. When you release the controls it will continue to drift unless friction slows it down, or you stop it. In this mode the Quadcopter will be susceptible to wind gusts.
Return to Home Failsafe
If the Phantom loses the signal from the controller for any reason the "return to home" feature will initialize. The aircraft will ascend to 60 feet, then make a straight-line course back to the "home position" specified during GPS calibration. Once home the Quadcopter will safely descend to the ground and power itself off.
Intelligent Orientation Control (IOC)
IOC is designed to help make flying more intuitive. Nominally, the yaw control will allow the Phantom to rotate continuously, which can quickly become confusing if you lose track of which way is "front". Suddenly your controls can get mixed up, where pressing right causes the craft to move left and pressing forward causes it move backward. Intelligent Orientation Control prevents this from happening, keeping the "tail" of the Quadcopter pointed roughly toward the pilot at all times. To enable IOC you will need to use the Naza-M Assistant Software.
Naza-M Assistant Software
After coming to grips with the basics of flying your Quadcopter you will probably want to download and install the free Naza-M Assistant Software for Windows from the DJI website. This program lets you to unlock the full capabilities of your aircraft, allowing you to enable Intelligent Orientation Control (IOC), perform calibration and testing of hardware and software, or, if you're feeling confident, activate advanced flight modes.
LED Status Indicator
LED status light on the tail of the Phantom Quadcopter provides you with various kinds of feedback and warnings. Colors alternate between green, amber and red and can either be flashing or solid. These messages give you valuable information such as whether the GPS is properly calibrated, alerting you the battery is getting low, or telling you the controller's signal is out of range.
