The Pentax K-3 DSLR Camera is an advanced DSLR featuring a 23.35MP APS-C CMOS sensor and PRIME III image processor to produce high-resolution still imagery and full HD 1080i/p video with high low-light sensitivity to ISO 51200. Full-resolution continuous shooting is supported up to 8.3 fps for 22 consecutive RAW frames, with a top shutter speed of 1/8000 sec., and the SAFOX11 autofocus system utilizes 27 focus points, with 25 cross-type points, to maintain sharp focus in a quick and accurate manner. Benefitting the image quality is a selectable anti-aliasing filter, which can be turned on or off to either garner the highest resolution and sharpness possible or provide enhanced protection against moiré. Additionally, in-camera Shake Reduction image stabilization renders any K-mount lens stabilized and helps to minimize the appearance of camera shake when working with greater shutter speeds or longer focal lengths.

question
Is the kit lens with the K-3 a plastic body as was the kit lens with the K-50?
The lens is a plastic body, but in my experience has great optical quality.

question
I have a K-50, actually my second one. The first had to be replaced under warranty because of faulty sensor issues. My replacement (well out of warranty) has sensor issues - I cannot use through-the-lens metering so its essentially not a DSLR any longer but a mirrorless camera. Am I likely to be burned similarly with with the K-3? I feel like I'm committed to Pentax because of my investment in lenses but really want to make sure this won't be another mistake.
The K-3 is a whole different level up from a K-50. i have the K-3 as well as predecessors K-5 and K-7. Never had a lick of a problem on any of them. These are pro level bodies.

question
does this box include Pentax Flu Card or any other simple SD card ?
Not that I recall. I had so many sd cards lying around that I didn't pay attention. The Pentax card definitely wasn't included though.

question
What does the U1, U2, U3 stand on the selector? Are they for programmable settings (say U1 for my base landscape settings, U2 for base wildlife settings)?
Those are custom user settings, I have each one set up and it is WONDERFUL. I have one setting for my macro which requires spot metering spot focus, I have one for my wildlife set on TAV and the third is set for my night long exposure shots for fireworks and lightning storms, i have that set for remote as well, it just saves a lot of time flipping controls on the settings you use the most, my favorite thing about these modes, you can name them to what you want to make things easier to remember what they were set to do!
