Sigma 24-105mm f/4.0 overview

  • 1Description

The 24-105mm f/4 DG HSM Art Lens from Sigma is a wide-angle to medium telephoto zoom lens with a constant f/4 aperture. It is designed for both full frame and crop sensor Sony A DSLR cameras.

The lens integrates three aspherical elements into its construction as well as two SLD and two FLD glass elements to help minimize aberration, field curvature, and distortions throughout the zoom range as well as provide greater image sharpness while avoiding reduced peripheral brightness. Super Multi-Layer Coating has also been applied to lens elements to reduce surface reflections, lens flare, and ghosting to produce images with higher contrast and color fidelity.

The barrel of the lens is constructed from a Thermally Stable Composite (TSC) material that offers minimal thermal shrinkage and exceptional hardness. For autofocus, a Hyper Sonic Motor (HSM) delivers high speed focus with minimal noise, making it well suited for continuous shooting and video recording.

An optimized algorithm offers smooth auto focusing with full-time manual focus override.
A brass mount combines high precision with rugged construction, adding durability to the lens.
The lens is compatible with Sigma's USB Dock and Sigma Optimization Pro software for adjusting focus position, and updating its firmware to better suit your needs.
The rounded 9-blade diaphragm produces aesthetic bokeh at both large and small apertures.

    Sigma 24-105mm f/4.0 reviews

24-105mm f/4 DG HSM Art Lens for Sony A is rated 4.4 out of 5 by 7.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Sigma does it again The is the 2nd ART lens I've purchased, and I'm glad to say, it performs to its reputation! The build quality is consistent with the ART line - sleek, clean, and solid. The zoom ring grip is nice to the touch, and smooth to twist as you adjust your focal length. So much better than my Sony 24-70 f/2.8 Zeiss. As for performance, it's sharp wide open at f/4, however, there's some lens vignetting at this aperture; nothing you can't correct in post. Contrast and color is excellent. Focusing in low-light wasn't an issue (we shoot weddings), so that's a plus. In addition, the zoom range is great for weddings, especially that extra 35mm of zoom (versus the 24-70mm). Depending on how you shoot, you may miss that extra stop of light (f/2.8) if you're used to the 24-70mm f/2.8 lens, but it was a non-issue for me. CA is evident, but again, easily correctable in post and a non-issue for me (as a wedding photographer). Highly recommended!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from I would purchase this product again Purchased this lens for general use with sony A7r,A 6000, and sony e series adapter. Works very well. Images are sharp and resolution is good. Only thing I don't like is that the zoom function has no lock, so if you are carrying it with the lens facing down, it slides outward..

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Sharp shooter This big lens is a solid shooter that takes sharp pictures. Operation is silent & focus is snappy. It even looks like it belongs on the camera.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from A Versatile Lens I bought this lens for my Sony a99v. It also came with a free USB dock and a protective filter. The lens is sharp in the center at all focus lengths, even at f4.0. The corners are not that good at 24mm but tightens up from f5.6 on. My copy needed some adjustments out of box and the free dock came in handy. It has very useful range and I use it as my main walk-around lens in travel and hiking. It's on the heavy side but you will get used to it after a while.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Definitely love this lens. It is my current workhorse. I read both positive and negative things about this lens. I have to say, I am quite pleased. I am using it on a Sony A99II and it performs admirably with its high pixel density. It is very sharp, I gave it 4 stars instead of 5 because of the following: - Focus was very sharp at the wide end but I had to apply some micro focus adjustment at the telephoto end - While I like the constant F4, I would rather have say 2.8-F4 so I could open it up for low light but with the A99II sensor that is not too much of an issue. - It's definitely heavy - the 82mm filter ring means more expensive filters. I suspect if it were F2.8 that might mean an even bigger size. - I wish it were weather sealed a bit better. I do protect my equipment from the elements, but I would like it if it were sealed better. Over all no regrets, for what I do, it's great glass.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Sigma no longer means, Cheap A great lens. Quality construction, sharp optics. Very happy with this purchase. Sigma used to be a choice for those who were trying to save money. The Art lens series are on par with the big names lenses. An excellent choice for quality optics. No longer a budget lens company.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good all-around lens I purchased this lens to replace an older Minolta lens. It makes a good general-purpose lens. It is reasonably fast, the focus is quiet (unlike the Minolta), and has been good for the event photography I do where there is not time to switch lenses. I only wish it were an f/2.8 or faster, as often I am in low-light situations. I have found it to be a solid performer.
