The fifth generation Gary Fong Lightsphere Collapsible with Speed Mount diffuses the light from your on-camera shoe-mounted flash. It features a strap with hook-and-loop fasteners that is compatible with most flashes, including larger more powerful units, for quickly attaching and removing the diffuser. Also, its collapsible design means that it can be easily stored for travel.

This diffuser comes with a White Dome for extra diffusion which can be inverted for a different effect. This dome can be removed or replaced with additional colors. The Lightsphere can also use an optional gel system for even more creative options.

Lightsphere Collapsible with Speed Mount (Generation 5) is rated 4.6 out of 5 by 261.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Lightsphere is very easy to use I received the product and the Lightsphere arrives in a black box with the collapsed sphere, a dome and some simple user guide. The thing I like about the dome is that there are 2 rubber flaps that glide down the sides of the flash. There is a velco strip that wraps around the base of the flash. It was easy to use and I was up and running pretty quickly. The base of dome collapses but the top just stays the way it is. You can turn the dome so it is inverted. Just started using it, but I got a nice evenly lit portrait. The guide that came with the piece was just a 2-sided card, but there are additional tutorials on youtube.com. Product does as it advertised.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Happy with purchase Did a quick test shot in vertical and horizontal mode with dome on and also off the light sphere. Product has visible shadows with the dome kept on the actual unit. Shadows are significantly softer and more subtle than with bare flash only. For shadow free results it is best to leave the dome off unit. Overall very happy with results. The light sphere sits very securely on the flash head and is easy to change from vertical to horizontal position with great ease. It is more difficult to secure dome on the unit when it is mounted onto the flash head. I found it easier to place it on when you had the lightsphere in both hands.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Minimal shadows if used on camera At last, a belt buckle type speed mount that doesn't dangle loose and fall off my smallish Lumix 360L flash. This modifier works well with on camera flash indoors. Off camera, however, it produces ugly shadows that are no better than anything else A flash modifier that spills light in every direction. For quick, indoor grab shots this works okay, but for creative off-camera flash I would prefer light output that is more directional. Outdoors, this flash modifier spills too much light into the open atmosphere, a waste of batteries. Though far less cumbersome to use than my Lumiquest Big Bounce or Impact Quick box Micro portable soft boxes, the light sphere cannot match their light quality on or off camera.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from This Lightsphere really works I first saw the results of the Gary Fong Lightshpere when one of my friends was photographing people at our function. I was impressed at how soft the photos were with no hard shadows or redeye. I am really just getting into digital photography, and I shoot a lot of pictures both indoors and out using a flash. This Lightphere is very light, but not at all flimsy. it was easy to attach to my Canon 320 speedlight, and the results were amazing. It easily collapses for travel or storage, and is very easy to expand and install. I have no complaints with this unit, and would highly recommend it.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from I'm going to sell mine! I use this product to do real estate photography when it's not possible to bounce the flash off of the ceiling. The ceiling may be dark or too high so it's necessary to point the flash forward. I like the effect it has by softening shadows and evenly lighting the space BUT it is a pain to take on and off the flash head. The velcro and flaps are cumbersome and awkward and the dome pops out and falls to the ground more times than I care to bend over and pick it up. I regret spending the money on this.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good choice for bad situations; unnecessarily expensive Good build quality, can take abuse. Used this in a wedding shoot at a park, outdoors in strong middday sun. Good for filling in shadows around face/body if you're after a portable solution, have nothing to bounce off of (like a ceiling or white walls) or fast setup if you can't bring or don't have time for modifiers (like umbrellas) and stands. In my case, bride wanted quick (under an hour) park photos with 20 family members, before reception started. We moved around to different parts of the park a few times. A number of colleagues demonstrated similar cheaper lightsphere's having worked just as well, so I slightly regret the amount I spent on Gary Fong's version. Overall it does the job in circumstances that wouldn't allow longer time or more equipment, although there are more affordable options.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Improved on a great product I have a previous version of the collapsible Lightsphere (not sure which generation). The current Generation 5 Speed Mount is both easier to use and will fit on smaller flashes. The mounting for the dome is also improved (easier mounting). When flash is needed, The Lightsphere itself works very well to provide more natural lighting for candid photography at home (kids on Christmas morning, puppies being puppies, etc.) or indoor gatherings like conferences, the infamous office party, and so on. In my home (white, 9-foot ceilings, light-coloured but not white walls, oriental carpets) I am getting good results with the Metz 52-AF1 pointed straight up or a few degrees forward, the camera on Aperture Priority, minimum shutter speed 1/60, and the Lightsphere dome inward/down. (During processing I warm up the colour temperature to more closely match our psychological expectations for the setting.)

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Better then I expected! I am a photographer and I had a friend tell me about this lightsphere. Wow! When it arrived I actually had a shoot that night in a dim lighted club for a band I work with. Low, blacked painted ceiling that I have always dreaded shooting at. The Gary Fong mount did an amazing job pulling out the light needed to make this one of my best shoots at the location. I tried with the cap on and then with the cap off. Either way, if you adjust your setting, they both turn out great! So happy that I found this product and can't wait to use it again.
