Profoto Deep Silver Large Reviews

Bent center rod

My unit arrived with no major issues in the box, however upon opening, I noticed that the center (main) rod had a bend at the end. Nothing major that I could not bend back with my hands, however this is worth noting that this might be a bit more fragile than I had expected. For the price that Profoto commands for this item, I thought it would be more Pro-centric and can withstand the repeated use it will be put through.

Just love it

When you can't pack that para, this is a close second. nice, bright parabolic wrapping style umbrella. gives that soft light and impactful edginess when you need to feather it at the edges.

Profoto only makes great products. Really like this large umbrella and the light it makes, truthfully though I do not see much difference between the light from this one and the Large Deep White one I bought. So if you already have the white one no real need to get this one.

will be getting others, it's great

Easy to use, crisper light than deep white

I have both the white internal and silver internal umbrellas, love them, so quick and simple to setup and give a great quality of light. The silver internals is certainly crisper than the white, which is a well documented thing, I'm just reiterating that notion. By crisper, not great for soft beautiful portraits, use the white, for sports, men, etc., use the silver, gives a harder, edgier light. I bought both for ease of setup and am very happy with both, just have to be wise about where I use them.

DON'T buy it for B1/D1

Great quality parabolic umbrella. It is made for pro heads. If you are using it with monolights you will not take advantage of this modifier. Probably shallow smaller umbrellas will be just enough for B1/D1.

My favorite ...

Because I do a broad range of on site photography I recently purchased a set of umbrellas in various sizes made by Profoto. Though I had not used any of their products the reviews looked good but I was skeptical about the higher cost. I sometimes shoot in small locations with wood stained walls which are not desirable to bounce flash from so I started with the 33 inch white. These umbrellas were so much better made than anything that I had previously used that I decided to try replacing an old set of soft boxes with another set of Profoto's larger silver deep dish with diffusers. I now have two small white 33 deep dish, one medium silver 41 deep dish w/diffuser panel and one large silver 51 w/diffuser panel to cover various size sets and they are much more durable, better constructed and offer a nice reflection of light. The deep dish design allows for better control of light and feathering and add the diffuser to silver umbrella for an alternative to soft boxes with much quicker and easier set up/tear down and compact portability. I have used all of these umbrellas in my studio with good results and plan to carry them for on location photography. Both the umbrellas and the diffuser panels come in their own pre-labeled, individual durable protective cases and can be easily packed into your light stand case. Pricey but worth the $$.

It’s great ... very portable, obviously, yet sends a wall of light with snappy details with very soft shadows. Love it

question

I'm an Elinchrom user, what is the shaft dimensions for Profoto umbrellas?
Asked by: Travis
The shaft thickness is 8mm which is too big to fit the standard Elinchrom umbrella hole. You can work around this by using an inexpensive umbrella fitting which I did with my Elinchrom strobes.
