ZTS MBT-1 overview

  • 1Description

The MBT-1 Multi Battery Tester from ZTS provides you with a quick and efficient way to test over 40 types of batteries including NiMH, Li-Ion, alkaline, lithium, coin cell, button type and more. Without having to throw switches or push buttons, you simply place your battery on the appropriate space on the tester.  Then, by touching the battery with the included probe, the machine's microprocessor shows you the percentage of remaining capacity on the LED display bar.

The battery contacts are labeled so you always know where to place your battery.  When not in use, the tester's probe stores in the side seam of the tester. The unit is surrounded by a rubber sleeve that is easy to grip and also protects it from incidental contact. The tester runs on four "AA" batteries (sold separately).

    ZTS MBT-1 reviews

MBT-1 Multi Battery Tester is rated 4.8 out of 5 by 33.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Fantastic, accurate battery tester I use this tester an avg of 1/2hr every day. Its built well and is very rugged. I estimate that it tests batteries with a med-high drain load. Its accuracy is comparable to my 1950's, discrete component, analog load tester. Measurements take about 3 seconds and are clearly indicated on the multi-colour, 6-segment LED display. This one also measures a wide range of CR coin cells, unlike my ZTS MINI-MBT tester. The neg probe cable is about 8 long which helps when testing awkward sized batteries. The only downside is its size, its a brick compared to my ZTS MINI-MBT tester. But I guess that keeps my co-workers from walking away with it.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Superb Tester I used a smaller ZTS tester for a number of years to test toy, flashlight, lantern, scale, and other types of batteries (including NiMH) I wanted to be able to test a wider variety of button, wafer and various lithium batteries so I bought this larger tester. Sometimes I use it to troubleshoot poor performance of a device. And I also use it to verify bad batteries before I discard them. I find that very satisfying. This product is Made in the USA and it has a high quality feel about it with excellent fit and finish and materials. I highly recommend ZTS products, including this MBT-1. It requires 4 AA batteries for operation, but if it is like my smaller version which uses 4 AAAs the batteries will last for at least two years, probably longer.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Best battery tester on the market Extremely versatile and capable of testing most of the common batteries used as well as many uncommon batteries. Most importantly it applies a very brief load while testing which is the only true way to check a battery's capacity and life left. I have found it to be extremely accurate compared to using just a voltmeter or other battery testers that only apply a light continuous load. Following manufacturer's instructions on how to test is extremely important. I find that cleaning the testers' contact terminals and negative probe tip with 91% isopropyl alcohol and a soft cloth is helpful. Also holding the probe tip assembly vertically and pushing firmly straight down onto the battery gave me very consistent results. Customer support is superb.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Fantastic battery tester! I started with the Mini but realized I had nearly a dozen small items powered by Lithium coin batteries which would fail in ways that did not always hint at a dead battery. The Mini version seems about the size I expect for a small meter or battery tester. The MBT-1 is fairly large and you might want to note the dimensions before you order. It works fine for me since I leave it on a shelf near my work bench.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from A Significant Upgrade Having owned an earlier version of the ZTS battery tester for years, I found it to be a must have instrument. With the availability of newer batteries, especially rechargeables, it was time to purchase the latest offering. Before the ZTS testers, I had been using inexpensive battery testers. The only info they gave was whether there was some unknown charge left in the batteries, not the amount. It left me guessing. When you depend upon your batteries to run photo equipment and other devices (or to determine if batteries should be replaced before a lengthy shoot to avoid potential interruptions to change batteries), the ZTS is the only way to go. The latest tester is larger than the original version, but it's to be expected as there are many more battery types that can be measured.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Best battery tester I've ever used and worth the price! I bought my 1st MBT-1 about 4 years ago and this is my 3rd (I have 2, gave 1 as a gift). I've never found a better tester. It covers almost all the types of batteries I use. Buyers should be aware it does not work on zinc-based "heavy duty" batteries, but I never use those myself. I've found the MBT-1 results to be much more reliable and useful compared to other testers. The results are a very good indicator of remaining useful life for both rechargeables and non-rechargeables. It's not cheap, but is very well made - I've had no problems with either of my MBT-1's over many years. The price at B&H's was among the lowest, with quick delivery. I highly recommend the MBT-1! It will pay for itself in time!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent Batter Tester After using this battery tester for a couple weeks I can say that it offers fantastic performance and apparent accuracy. I've used it to test hundreds of standard-sized batteries as well as a bunch of unusual button cells, etc. It has lived up to all my expectations. Make sure you understand how large this tester is. If you are considering putting it in your pocket you might want to get the smaller version.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from ZTS MBT-1 Multi Battery Tester Works as advertised. Would be nice to have a mAH reading, but knew that it would not when I ordered it. I use it to test all my NiMH batteries, AA, AAA, etc. Also use it to test my CR123 flashlight batteries and my 18650 flashlight batteries. Gives a simple percentage readout, depending on how much power is left in the battery. Does a load test, so it is more accurate than a maH reading.
