Yes you can attach a 55mm threaded filter to the Pentax HD Pentax DA 20-40mm f/2.8-4 ED Limited DC WR Lens (Black) and the hood it comes with. But only if the filter has 55mm front threads to attach the hood too.

The Pentax HD Pentax DA 20-40mm f/2.8-4 ED would be able to fill the man in the frame. Shooting at 20mm and 6' away.

What is this lens' build quality? Made of plastic or metal?
As far as I can tell, it's all metal, and if not, the build quality, and overall feel in-hand is excellent. Manual focus, however, is electronic (by-wire), which isn't as responsive, but that's par for the course.

Like the people below, mine says assembled in Vietnam. That likely means that the parts came from multiple countries, but no way to verify. I agree the lens feels very well made, and it takes great photos.
