question
Does this scratch? Isn't silk or the kind of cloths you get from an Optometrist better? Are the cloths from an optometrist better or worse?
These tissue sheets are very similar to the pre-moistened, lens wipes that are individually wrapped, which always seem to dry out before I am done. Be aware that these tissues are dry, and not pre-moistened with a lens cleaning solution. You must first moisten one before use. If you look at the label to your typical bottle lens cleaning solution you will see that most of them are water, isopropyl alcohol, and usually some sort of dye. I don't want dye on my lenses. Do you?I use these wipes by moistening them with a quick squirt from a spray bottle of 91% isopropyl alcohol, NOT ETHYL ALCOHOL, which can attack the lens coatings. You can find 4 oz bottles of it at most drug stores. I then use a micro fiber cloth to finish. The cleaning job on my glasses, sunglasses is phenomenal. No scratches. It cleans my camera LCD screens to like new condition. I highly recommend this technique of cleaning lens and small glass surfaces. It is far more economical than packaged lens wipes, and the results are on a higher level. I do carry the the packaged lens wipes in my walk around bag for emergencies, because I do not feel safe carrying the bottle of alcohol in my daily tote bag. I do carry a bottle inside of a zip-lock-style sandwich bag inside of my big back pack.
