AKG PZM30 D Overview

The PZM30 D from AKG is a high-performance hemispherical boundary layer microphone is a pressure zone microphone designed for professional recording, sound reinforcement and broadcasting. The capsule is mounted in the "pressure zone", an area where direct sound and reflected sound are in phase, which provides a 6 dB higher sensitivity.

Two selectable frequency responses (flat/rising) provide greater flexibility in mic placement and sonic character. The rising position of the frequency switch adds brilliance and a crisp attack on percussion, drums, or piano. The PZM30 D comes in a very rugged, low-profile, metal housing with detachable cable that makes it sturdy and reliable for heavy duty applications.

I'm using this on the inside of a grand piano lid. The sound is awesome - so clear! Way better than the microphone I was using before.

Strange Microphone, Amazing Sound

I have personally worked with a pair of these mics and they are way cooler than the steel plate look. If you tape them to the lid of a grand piano, one up by the high strings and one down by the lows away from the player, close the lid, put the cover on and pan them, the sound you get with little to no bleed is crazy good. I've also heard of using them as drum rooms and kick outs. But seriously try the piano thing you will be amazed.

question

Will this mic work with my Sony PCM M10?
Asked by: Anonymous
The PZM 30D requires phantom power 12 - 48v to operate. This unfortunately can not be provided by the PCM-M10 recorder and similar recorders that feature only a 1/8 input connection.
