Impossible's Instant Lab allows you to transform any digital image into a real, one-of-a-kind analog instant photo via your iPhone or iPod touch. Select a picture, place your iPhone on the Instant Lab and within seconds it ejects your analog instant photo, ready to develop in the palm of your hand. It doesn't matter whether your digital image was shot with your phone or created in Adobe Photoshop - any image on your phone's display can be turned into a real analog instant photo.
The Instant Lab is accompanied by the free Impossible Project app. This easy-to-use iOS application is not only designed to operate the Instant Lab, but also comes with a great photo scanner that lets you re-scan your instant photo and upload it to the ever-growing Impossible user gallery. And should you ever run out of film, an optimized mobile shop is built-in as well.
While it is recommended that you use Impossible film for Polaroid SX-70-type cameras (ASA 160), the Instant Lab can be used with any Impossible film - both color, and black and white. It works with new, battery-less film packs for Impossible cameras, as well as classic film cartridges with built-in batteries. Exposure times for various Impossible film types can be easily set within the Impossible Project App, but you can play with different settings on various film types.
Unlike a photo printer, the Instant Lab doesn't spray ink onto paper. In fact it is bridging the gap between the worlds of digital and analog. Being a real camera, it uses a special four element coated glass lens to take a photo from your iPhone's display and lets it develop inside the layers of the integral film. It's a purely photochemical process that results in a unique analog photo that is completely different from the output of a printer.
At the heart of the Instant Lab is the Impossible Film Processing Unit (FPU) - a new high-precision platform that processes and develops Impossible instant film and guarantees great photographic results.
The Instant Lab is designed to be operated as easy as possible. No unnecessary dials, buttons, or controls. Simply place your phone on the cradle, pull the shutter slide out, then back in and press the eject button - that's it. The Impossible Project app guides you through the whole process and helps you get the best results.
Many details guarantee a smooth experience. The app takes care of perfect exposure times, the cradle holds your iPhone or iPod touch securely, and the built-in frog tongue protects your photo from unwanted light during development. It also comes with a USB power-cord to charge the Instant Lab's battery wherever you are.
