Ilford Multigrade FB Cooltone Glossy Reviews

Stay With Warmtone

I like my B&Ws on the dark/contrasty side. Cooltone's supposed to do better in that regard. After burning a box and trying everything, including extra development time as advised, I don't see much difference between Cooltone and Ilford Warmtone. I get what I want from the WT with filters (3-1/2 or more) and varying exposure times. Cooltone's a good paper, yes, but not worth the extra cost.

Ever since Ilford purchased Kentmere, this has been my go to paper. Always consistent and translates my vision perfectly.

Cool tone indeed better than that slight green cast. Use it all the time now, contrast a bit lower than other Ilford papers.

Pure white paper base

If your looking for a true white fiber paper from Ilford then this is it, you may not realize it but Ilfords papers are tinted a cream color that effects your image tone. Most people don't notice it or even care but I like a pure white and bright tone to my highlights, that's just the look I prefer. This paper does have optical brighteners in the emulsion, some people care about it and I thought I would but, I don't. This paper is about a half a grade harder than comparable papers so you just have to adjust your process to get the look you want. I found that I needed to dilute my developer a bit to tame the harshness of the overall contrast but once I got my process dialed in I quickly came to love this paper. Give it a try, you won't be disappointed

I prefer it to Classic paper. Well worth trying if you haven't.

Very nice cold tone paper. Short toe gives crisp highlights. No dogleg in characteristic curves for soft filters like earlier Ilford MG papers. Very good Dmax.
