If you are using an 1/8'' microphone that is not battery powered and instead uses mic plugin power, then you would use the Rode VXLR Plus adapter with the phantom power on your DR-40X or H5 or H6 turned on (B&H # ROVXLRP).

Im afraid this will not work at all for what you want to do. As its the other way round. The 3.5mm is the input and the XLR is the mic level output. This would be used in a live situation for example where you may have a device that has a 3.5mm output which you plug in the Switchcraft 318 input. Now you can plug the XLR output of the Switchcraft 318 into a snake or stage box to go into the house mixer at mic level.
