This Bolt Beauty Dish and Grid Kit is designed for use with the VB-series bare-bulb flash units. It features a 12" diameter beauty dish that will create a soft, yet crisp light source as well as a 40° snap-in grid for increasing contrast and limiting light spill. The dish easily slips onto the flash's accessory mount and comes with a diffuser sock that uses an elastic rim to remain in place on the dish. The sock can be used with or without the grid in place.

I had never used a beauty dish before. I was playing around a bit with it and was very surprised at how soft the light was with the grid on it. I thought it would be more contrasty but it was not. I was able to take a few shots of a young lady with surprising results. She and her mom were just as amazed as I was. Sometimes you just have to experiment a bit. I'm starting to like this off camera lighting. I would definitely recommend this for portraits and small to medium sized products. Unfortunately, I was only able to use it for 3 photos. I had it set up against a wall when an un-named person, who was paying more attention to their phone, politely kicked one of the stand legs which gently placed the light, stand and modifier against the wall and then to the ground. At that point the light was making a hard right (the dish was really bent) and it was not usable for the rest of the night. I was able to bend it back into place later but I have not used it since. Another shoot is coming up in a couple of weeks and I will attempt to keep it grounded this time. I do have to say, I think the dish saved my AD200 from severe damage. Luckily, it still worked.
Works well, is very light, and I can position it close to the camera to make a great fill light.
