Great slow film

Sharp and low grain. What grain there is depends on developer and agitation and it is a pleasing grain.

Use a tripod

Extremely fine grain. I just wish the ISO was a bit higher, so I didn't have to use a tripod.

Great for Minox

This is my favorite film for Minox photography. It has very fine grain, great sharpness and contrast, and it is thin and flexible for loading into cassettes. The tiny Minox format enlarges grain to a ridiculous degree, but this film works very well. I usually develop it in HC-110.

Low speed high contrast action

I love this film. I shoot it through my Leica m3, without a light meter, and get the most surreal images. I like high contrast , surreal subjects. Dark and moody images. This stuff delivers for me every time. Yes it is slow, and I don’t need a tripod because for what I do, motion is acceptable.

This film has serious Quality control problem.

A while ago I purchased 2 rolls. After developing (Ilfotec DD-X) and scanning I've found that all images are covered with small white dots or flaxes, especially visible in mid-gray area. That basically ruined my pictures. It appears that the films are defective. I haven't seen anything like that on any other films including Rollei RPX 100 and 400 and even badly expired Soviet Svema! Iattached photos describing problem. I also contacted Macodirect and waiting for the answer. Anyway this is absolutely unacceptable quality control for such great name as Rollei.

Best in its class

Develop it using HC-110, 1-39, for 6.5 minutes, and get consistent results.

For bokeh & shallow d.o.f. applications

If you are after a shallow depth-of-field in your photographs, you need to use near-maximum apertures as much as possible. The same goes if you are taking advantage of your lens' ability to produce a fine bokeh. And so to stay within your camera's available shutter speeds in normal daylight situations at the wider apertures, you need to use a 25 to 50 iso film.

Update to my previous review.

As per my previous review I purchased defected rolls a couple years ago. I contacted Macodirect Customer support 4 times and after more than 10 months I haven't heard from them anything. That is really disgusting attitude to their customers and it appears that Macodirect has non-functional  Customer support. Personally I don’t see any point to buy such expensive film from unknown manufacturer (Rollei doesn’t make films), without adequate quality control and non-functional customer support. Also I suggest that B&H has to revise its agreement with Macodirect since selling products from vendors that do not have customer support might negatively affect B&H rating.
