Tilta ES-T13 Overview

  • 1Description

The Tilta ES-T13 Blackmagic Pocket Cinema Camera Rig is an aluminum cage and rod system built specifically for the Blackmagic Pocket Camera (camera not included). It consists of the camera cage, which is form fitting and allows unobstructed access to the camera's features, connectors, battery, and SD card slot. The cage provides 1/4"-20 accessory mounting points so you can mount available accessories without stressing the camera body.

Once the camera is mounted in the cage, the included HDMI plug protector connects the included Micro HDMI to HDMI cable to the camera's Micro HDMI port and is clamped in place providing a full sized HDMI connector. This makes it easier to connect HDMI cables, and you don't have to worry about wearing out or damaging the micro HDMI port by repeatedly plugging and replugging a Micro HDMI cable into your camera body. The HDMI plug protector clamps the Micro HDMI adapter cable in place and also attaches to the cage itself, acting as a strain relief and providing a platform for the full-sized HDMI connector to attach, so it doesn't just dangle freely.

The cage features an integrated wood grip for user comfort, as well as a removable top handle that features 1/4"-20 accessory mounting points, 2 x cold shoes, and a wood lined grip for comfort. The cage also includes a 15mm LWS support rod system, featuring rod clamps, a pair of 300mm threaded rods, and 3 x 1/4"-20 threaded helical coil inserts for attaching the rod support system to an available QR/Sliding base Plate, tripod, or other 1/4"-20 mounting equipment.

The cage attaches to the included 15mm LWS support rods via a quick release system, that allows you to easily remove the camera from the rods for a minimum sized shooting package or quicklly remount the camera to the rods when working with rod mounted accessories. The design of the system ensures that the lens' center height to the rods conforms to industry standards for using rod mounted accessories.

Form-fitting cage.
Functions and features of the camera remain available for use.

    Tilta ES-T13 Reviews

ES-T13 Blackmagic Pocket Cinema Camera Rig is rated 4.7 out of 5 by 34.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Nicest Cage I've ever used. I got this so that I could attach rails & have a proper cage to protect the camera. I thought it was chromed out in the pictures but it came out as a really AWESOME Gunmetal color (reminds me of a lamborghini). It's easy enough to assemble and comes in a nice foam packaging. Adds enough weight to the BMPCC to make Handheld quite a bit easier. The wood is nicely sanded down and smooth. There are plenty of mounts all over the cage for other accessories. The HDMI out cable & lock are very nice. The battery door hits the screws sometimes and the cage itself if the camera is not all the way in the cage.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from I love it!! Great quality for the price Everything fit great!! High quality product that has already protected my camera from a fall. The only thing negative would be that I would have liked the bottom opening for the battery and card to be just a hair wider for a cleaner open. I use external batteries and a Ninja 2 recorder so the bottom opening is not a big issue to me. In my opinion, it looks a lot cooler than many other cages!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent Product This was the perfect purchase. This product came highly recommended from a friend after he had been using it for his BMPCC for a few years. It has a compact form factor, strong features, and the two handles are incredibly useful for constant moving. This rig has given me the ability to build up the camera to look like something that actually shoots the way the BMPCC shoots. The little HDMI clip is an interesting feature that certainly keeps the cable safe. It is a little tedious to work with sometimes but I'd rather a safe, working cable over a pinched cable any day. This truly is an excellent product and I'd recommend it to anyone interested in purchasing either a cage for their BMPCC or the camera itself.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from showy at expense of functionality I bought over other less expensive models because of the bracket that holds the hdmi connection in place. Hopefully it will prove worthy investment the first time someone tips the tripod. over all though due to the classy wood side handle there really isnt a lot of real estate to mount excessories off of. The top is pretty much taken up by the top handle, and one side is occupied by the hdmi bracket. over all if you need to actually mount things to the cage look at other cheaper models.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Nice cage overall but could be improved Overall this is a very nice cage for the BMPCC. It is well built and feels strudy. Everything fits as it should. The finish on it is first rate. There are a few things that could be improved on it though. -The handle doesnt quite fit my hands comfortabley. The connection to the rig that should go between my index and middle finger is a little to wide. It also is position to far back so it isn't balanced when you hold it. -The back is a little to closely cut to the buttons. The buttons on the BMPCC are hard enough to use when plain. With the cage it makes it even more difficult. If they gave a mil or two more clearance it would have made a big difference.Overall though it this cage is the best I've seen for this camera.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Cage I love this cage. First, it was cheap which is good some of the time, and this time it was EXTREMELY good. Just because the price is cheap doesn't mean that the actual product is cheap. It looks fantastic with the camera on it and has all of the mounting options you could ask for.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Ok for protection, but thats about it It works ok for protecting your bmpcc, but thats about as far as it goes. After much frustration I have had to take this off permanently from my camera as most of the time it just gets in the way. In addition one of the screws on the wooden handle became stuck and I had to drill it out in order to get my camera out. This won't work with a stabilizer such as merlin 2 or hd glidecam. The frame takes up too much space for the bottom mounting screw to fit into both the glidecam / merline and the tilta rig - so to use the glidecam or merlin you have to take the frame off. The other attachment items look cool, but don't really do much functionally unless your adding a matte box and extremely long and heavy lens. In addition my camera was slightly loose inside the frame which allowed for a little wiggle. I would not buy this again.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from well built and looks cool This is a great little rig for the money. Really well built and fits the camera nicely. I really like the look of it and the wood on the handles is a nice touch. Love that they provided a solid way to convert the micro HDMI to a standard connection and it is locked in. The only con is that you have to disconnect from the rails to get the battery out but the quick disconnect works well.

Does this allow the Nikon Speed metabone adapter to be attached while the cage is on?
    Asked by: Guy S.
It will require that you remove the Metabones adapter before inserting or removing the camera from the cage, but other than that it fits just fine!

I wonder if I can use it with my Canon 70D? The current deal price is attractive))
    Asked by: Vitaliy K.
Hello. For the sake of collecting all of these answers in one definitive slot: This rig will not work with any other camera besides the BMPCC. Even if it fits in the rig, it won't work well, and will likely cause more grief than you want. I spend a few hours a week measuring and re-measuring these things trying to fit one camera into the rig for another, and it has never been satisfactory. Ever. That being said, check out some of the Elements rigs, designed to be modified and adjustable for a wide array of cameras. You can even buy a kit to make an entire cage from scratch, specifically how you like it, with the only limit being your IMAGINATION.

Does the cage block the battery/SD card access?
    Asked by: Marcos
No. It gets slightly harder to take them off, but no big deal at all.

I have a contineo cage with the nikon g to bmpcc speedbooster. It doesnt allow the tripod foot of the speedbooster to be mounted. Will i be able to use it with this cage?
    Asked by: Michael
Probably not. Weve had trouble mounting the speed boosters on cages before. You would have to physically try it though, as we have never attempted this kind of setup, weve had trouble mounting the speed boosters on cages before. can I use this product with a Canon 7D?
    Asked by: Anonymous
No. The body shapes of the 7D and the BMPCC are different, and this is built for the BMPCC shape.
