This kit contains three Lee Neutral Density Filters, .3 (one stop), .6 (2 stops), and .9 (3stops).

Neutral Density filters offer the possibility to achieve otherwise unachievable results. ND filters appear gray and reduce the amount of light reaching the film. They have no effect on color balance. They enable the shooter to adjust exposure without affecting color balance. ND filters appear gray and reduce the amount of light reaching the film.

Determining which neutral density filter yields ideal results for any given lighting situation takes knowledge, experience and a collection of such filters. Speaking generally, the 2-stop value (ND 0.6) effectively compensates average situations.

Note: Lee polyester filters are made from lightweight, optical polymeric materials

Neutral Density Filter Have Four Main Uses

To enable slow shutter speeds to be used, especially with high speed films, to record movement in subjects such as waterfalls, clouds, or cars
To decrease depth of field by allowing wider apertures to be used, which helps separate subjects from their background
To decrease the effective ISO of high speed film (above ISO 400) and allow it to be used outdoors in bright situations
To allow cine and video cameras (which have fixed shutter speeds) to film subjects such as snow, sand or other bright scenes which could cause overexposure

    4x4" Neutral Density Polyester Filter Set (0.3, 0.6, & 0.9) is rated 3.8 out of 5 by 30.
Rated 4 out of 5 by from Lee 4x4 Polyester ND Filter Set These are wonderful for the price. They are about half the thickness of conventional glass filters, which are 4mm, and I can get two stacked in one filter frame in my matte box (Sachtler Ace) to save the other frame for other filters if I need it. A little loose in the frame opening, but the stage helps to keep them in place when the frame is slid into the box. (One filter per frame also works OK). These are better than I expected, optically. I have other plastic filters that are not nearly as clear and distortion free. Each one has a thicker plastic frame around the perimeter to provide a little rigidity to the filter material.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Great quality image but not build The filters do what they're supposed to... reduce light without noticible color shift. The problem is in the build quality. The filter is obviously a thin polyester film so that's no surprise but I'd think they can spend a few extra bucks on a stronger quality frame that holds the film. The frame is made of flexible plastic so the whole filter is kinda wobbly. If you've got a good mattebox it won't be a problem. If youre mattebox makes it hard to fit filters in then this will be a major pain. So think about this before buying.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Dude. These are stinkin' awesome. So glad I bought a set and I wished I'd done it earlier. When I first pulled them out of the box I was a little worried because they look flimsy. However, their lack of thickness (robustness) aside, they work GREAT. Now I'm finally able to shoot outside in bright sun with a low f/stop and the correct shutter speed. Previously, to counter act shooting outdoors in a lower f (like 2.8 or 3.) i had to crank the shutter speed, not any more. :-) Do not see any coloring of the image quality, and fit my indian mattebox fine. Now I just have to buy another set for my other camera. :-)

Rated 2 out of 5 by from You get what you pay for. I use these for video production. I bought these as a backup to real filters. There's a reason these are 3 for 1/3 of the price of 1 REAL GLASS ND Filter. The polyester has darker spots where thickness changes (around the corners) and the plastic around the edges takes away usable space. If you're aware of what you're paying for, the can do the job, but to expect them to be a tiffen or even a DECENT Lee filter, you're sorely mistaken.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from You get what you pay for Great product in that it doesn't have any colour casts and doesn't seem to produce any distortions in the image, however it seems quite flimsy and feels cheap (it was cheap though, only paid $ for it!). Wish it came with a pouch or something, but guess that would be asking for too much. I suggest getting something to store these in, unless you don't mind keeping it in its box. Oh and make sure you have the filter holder AND the adapter ring for your lens, otherwise you won't be able to enjoy these.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great! First - These filters are polyester. Taking that into account, if you are someone who can use something regularly and still take care of it (Read - Fragile) They are great filters. If you abuse your stuff, forget it, save up and buy the glass.Just finishing up a two week shoot, using these regularly. Zero colour shift, lightweight (They stay on my belt) and they work exactly as advertised.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Waste of money I wish I would have looked at these before purchasing. They are thin pieces of plastic housed in a frame that was too small to fit snugly in a standard matte box tray. They fall out easily, and if anything touches the ND material they scratch immediately which renders them unusable. I would never compromise the integrity in the optics of my glass by shooting through these cheap filters. Spend the extra money, and get the real deal because these polyester filters are unfit for use in front of anything.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Wish I'd bought a set sooner. The only thing I didn't like is that they don't feel robust. Meaning, if constantly taking them on location, they might only last a couple years or so. That said, they work REALLY WELL. Much better than I was expecting and I wish I'd bought them sooner. They allow me to shoot video with a low f/stop and maintain bokeh effect, while not having to crank my shutter to compensate for outdoor shooting. No color shifting at all. If you have a mattebox, buy 'em. :-)
