This lens hood is rubberized and uses light friction to hold itself on the lens. It does not click on. It is very easy to knock off the lens cap unwittingly and lose it. This is my second lens cap for this lens. Almost lost the new cap last weekend but retraced my steps on the road and found it. Be very mindful of what this lens cap rubs up against - you may knock it off and lose it.
I bought this as a backup to when I inevitably loose the original. Honestly this is not the best design. The slide on type that come with the 16,18,and 23 hoods are better.
