USA GEAR GRCMDG0110BKEW Overview

From Manufacturer

The Professional Series USA Gear Dual Grip Hand Support and Wrist Strap from Accessory Power is a combination wrist and hand support for most DSLR cameras. It is compatible with cameras that have a 3/8" neck strap webbing connector and 1/4-20 tripod mount.

This system provides you with two connection points that prevent your camera from slipping out of your hand. First, thread and secure the grip strap's webbing through your camera's neck strap lug. Second, attach the tripod connector to the 1/4-20 tripod socket of your camera. The tripod connector features an additional female socket to connect your camera to a tripod or monopod. Finally, wrap the neoprene support around your wrist and secure it via the touch fastener. This support stretches to accommodate wrist sizes of 4 to 10.5". This still allows you to maintain full control of the camera and guards against incidental slips while providing additional shooting stability. Your camera is now held at two points and remains firmly in your hand in shooting position.

USA GEAR GRCMDG0110BKEW Reviews

Very poor attachment/adjustment design

I purchased the Southwestern style, and while the cloth portion is well made, apparently durable, and attractive, everything else is sorely lacking. There are apparently two versions of this device available. One version uses a fairly large device screwing into the tripod socket and the other uses a piece of stamped sheetmetal. The item I am reviewing is the one with the stamped sheetmetal. The other device is subject to the same criticisms less concerns about the base plate attachment device. The incredibly poor stamped sheet metal design of the attachment plate not only gives up the possibility of incorporating an Arca plate, it has rough edges, prohibits sitting the camera on a flat surface, and looks incredibly cheap. The adjusting mechanism requires considerable fiddling in order to fit it to your hand and does not permit readjustment while wearing. A wider strap and adjusting mechanism not contained within the padding would have been just a cheap to manufacture, efficient to use, and not cost any more to make. As I had a drawer full of unused OP-TECH straps and hardware I was able to throw away the included adjustment strap, add a chip Arca plate, and make the device quite useable in a matter of minutes. In the interest of full disclosure, I think wrist straps in general are a terrible way to carry a camera. Having has spinal fusion two weeks ago I am unable to use a normal camera strap and this was the best I could do without having the camera totally unsecured. Having a camera tied to a hand makes about as much sense as going about your business with one hand personally in your pocket. As soon as possible I will ditch this carry method altogether.

This works, it is simple and low cost. I upgraded the connections with Peak Design connectors.
