Auray RFDT-128 overview

  • 1Description

Designed to be an all-in-one solution for desktop recording where isolation is needed, the RFDT-128 Desktop Reflection Filter and Mic Stand from Auray features high-density acoustic foam and a perforated aluminum screen that absorb and block room noise and reflections that can commonly occur in acoustically untreated rooms. When recording in an untreated acoustic environment, vocals that reflect off of the walls and ceiling can be picked up by the microphone. These reflections can interfere with the sound of the voice and create a distant and "roomy" effect. By absorbing and diffusing these reflections, the RFDT-128 creates a closer and drier sound truer to your voice, making it easier to work with during the mixing process, and is more desirable for broadcasts, podcasts, voiceover, and desktop recording applications.

An aluminum and acoustic-foam base provide additional noise protection by isolating the filter and your microphone against vibrations from your desk or table. The filter sits on a telescoping shaft that can be adjusted from 7 to 12" of height, for flexibility in mic positioning. Not limited to desktop applications, the RFDT-128's shield can be attached to a broadcast arm with the included mounting hardware. Its threaded mount is compatible with 5/8"-27 mic clips and shockmounts.

Compact, all-in-one solution for providing sound isolation in desktop recording applications
High-density acoustic foam works with the perforated aluminum shield to absorb and diffuse acoustic reflections while isolating your microphone
The telescoping shaft with twist lock allows for easy and precise height adjustment of microphone and filter
The standard 5/8"-27 threaded mount accepts most microphone clips and shock mounts
The sliding bracket makes it easy to position the microphone inside the reflection filter
The base is constructed of an aluminum plate for stability, and a 1.5" layer of high density acoustic foam for absorbing vibrations from a desk or tabletop

    Auray RFDT-128 reviews

RFDT-128 Desktop Reflection Filter and Mic Stand is rated 4.4 out of 5 by 21.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Worth every penny This Auray desktop filter will be used with the Zoom H2n for voice overs on video projects. I tested the Auray with the Zoom comparing the way I usually record with the new set up, and the quality is excellent! No more unsuccessful post-production editing out room echo. I was saving $ for the Auray RF-5P-B ($), when a B&H email featured this model. I liked the foam desktop base and the $ savings meant I could buy now instead of later. A win-win! My only set up issue, was getting the Zoom to screen to face me instead of the filter. With a slight modification in the base drection, it faces where I want it to. I also needed to purchase an adapter to attach my Zoom.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Saves space and sounds good I was looking for a way to have my $ mic close enough to use when I needed it without the tall stand and very big baffle I had installed. I have recently reduced my work space and kept bumping into the mic. I saw this desktop stand with the reflection filter and purchased it on a whim. When I installed my mic and tested it on my desk, the sound was as good, if not better, that the big stand. It is easy to install, simple to pull down from the shelf and hook up to my digital recorder and lay in a voice over. This is a good product for its application. It is probably not the most durable device, but I always treat my stuff with care and respect. This will last me for years.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Nice and Effective - I do recommend this. This works well with any mic that has a figure 8 polar pattern (probably any mic in general). I use it w the RODE Ribbon mic which has a backside and frontside element. It cuts the reflections down tremendously. I will say I also like it without the base. I use mine as a horseshoe on my desk with the mic on a low profile stand. This allows me to see over it and read my computer screen as I am filming a documentary. I wish they sold just the absorbent reflectors as stand alone! Nevertheless many will have a use for the stand also. the pole is well built. Aluminum outer shell is good, not plastic!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Nice product This is a pretty nifty device. Light enough to hang from a mic boom and moderately effective at noise dampening. I say moderate only because there is only so much a unit of this size can do, but it was noticeable in reducing unwanted spatial effect. I have it on a sperate boom with a goose-neck pop filter attached and in front. I slip one of 3 mics into the area between the baffle and the pop filter and am able to use it all mics. This setup also keeps it suspended over the desk operating position so i don't use the base.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Just right Very nice and well built reflector not only can it be used for recording vocals but also for saxophone too. worth the money!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Had to tweak it to work with my mic I got this when it was on sale thinking it would help with voiceovers that I do for video & audio work. The problem that I have, however, is that my mic is too big for the screen. (I have a Blue Bluebird mic). If I set it up the way it is supposed to be for the mic and the reflection filter, then the mic sticks out over the top. I ended up having to flip the reflection filter as well as my mic upside down and then it hit the filter much better.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from A little flimsy Acoustically it does what it's supposed to do even if its build is a little flimsy. The various parts all screw together so it is difficult to keep everything in alignment. That said, if its only sitting on your desktop it's not going to get jostled all that often so this is more of an annoyance at setup than a constant frustration.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Medium to Low Quality Item Looks good but not very sturdy. In use only moderately different from ambient sound. No striking advantage. Awkward LDC mic and pop filter mounting. Loose fitting on base/upright cannot be tightened because semi-rigid foam base (under metal) covers nut that would tighten upright extending from base.
