Genelec 8010 overview

  • 1Description

The black Genelec 8010 Bi-Amplified Active Monitor (Single) is designed for mixing and mastering in recording studios, broadcast facilities, and mobile work. The compact monitor utilizes independent 25 W class-D amplifiers to power a 3" woofer and a 3/4" metal dome tweeter housed in a die-cast aluminum enclosure.

The monitor utilizes Genelec's Directivity Control Waveguide and Minimum Diffraction Enclosure designs to tame box reflections, flatten the frequency response from 74 to 20,000 Hz, and provide a maximum SPL of 96 dB.

The amplifiers utilize Genelec's Intelligent Signal Sensing circuitry to conserve electricity, utilizing less than 0.5W in standby mode, 5W when idle, and 30W peak per amplifier at full output. The amplifier automatically detects the presence of an input signal and adjusts the power consumption of the monitor accordingly.

A bass tilt control allows you to adjust the bass response to fit the acoustics of your listening environment. The included ISO stand helps reduce the transmission of structural vibrations into your work surface.

    Genelec 8010 reviews

8010 Bi-Amplified Active Monitor (Black, Single) is rated 4.7 out of 5 by 6.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Good build, recommend in tandem with the sub woofer. Great fresh sound and a nice alternative to the Adam A7X's I use at home...I used them a couple of weeks but the lack of bass got to me (the 8010 goes down to only 65hz, just a little shy of solid bass response) so I bought the matching sub woofer and the grouping is now complete, full. The tilt on the speakers are a bit shy of sufficient for desk top use so I took the styrofoam packing from the boxes, stacked them and I sit the 8010's in them and now the aim towards me ears is perfect (see the attached photo). For portability I can't think of a better speaker. They're road worthy with a solid construction.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from They sound great! I'm a professional filmscoring musician who has a great home studio set-up with great monitors. I bought these small Genelec 8010's for a more portable, laptop-based rig I can take with me when I go somewhere for awhile but want to continue working. I assumed I'd be compromising significantly with small speakers, but figured I'd always do final mixes at home. While I'll probably still do that, these these 8010s are really great. They sound great, are fun to work on, and do allow thoughtful mixing decisions. I've even, on occasion, listened to mixes on these that were done on my home studio set-up and made changes that improved the mix in very meaningful ways. In short, I highly recommend these as the most truly professional, small, lightweight speakers I've heard.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great reliable monitor It is practical and reliable. It has a great mid and high frequency response that is good to edit dialogue and foley. Also, it is easy to travel with, therefore one does not have to use headphones or other monitors that may be of lesser quality. The XLR input is a little uncomfortable to connect.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Fantastic Speaker! These sound great for how small they are. Only thing I wish they had was some sort of volume control, either on the front or the back. Overall great product!!!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Amazing sound quality for such a small speaker! I got this for dialogue editing and it's working perfectly. It has a very flat frequency response and a smooth sound.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Tops, for a smaller space. I don't live in an area where I can audition monitors. After many weeks of online research/Q&A, I decided that: 1. I would go with Genelec; 2. I'd have to try the smallest (cheapest!) option to set my benchmark; 3. I wanted the the 8000=series case and driver protection, bypassing the M-series; 4. I would purchase at B&H, where the service is second to none. I love these things, but have elected to move up the Genelec driver-size food chain. For a smaller room, the 8010, or the 8020, are really apex products. The L-base table stand completes their small-space perfection. Genelec = top-quality construction and features, with playback detail, transparency and imaging that leaves me thinking my home hifi is mostly nonsense. Note: The method I found for determining I needed more speaker: Read: B&H'shttps://www.bhphotovideo.com/explora/audio/tips-and-solution/studio-monitors-nearfields?BI=572&kw=_inurl%3Awww.bhphotovideo.com/explora&c3api=0980%2C106232570693&gclid=CIjmjuyv0tICFQYMaQodv5IACQ And, listening on the 8010's to Sonic Sense's Genelec library. The 8010's made quick work of sorting the sonic differences/capabilities of the woofer range/integration, and this is testament to how well the 8010's can play monitor.
